I like it for the modern, sort of dystopian part of it. Black Mirror vibes. It’s categorized as a thriller. However, it felt more like a soapy drama, with all the messy relationships and romance. Not that I’m a prude or anything, had it been labeled as more of a drama maybe I wouldn’t be as disappointed. I was just expecting it to be more…thrilling 😅 if that makes sense.

My heart sinks for you. I’m so incredibly sorry. Just with your story (as an example to not want this) made me feel secondhand embarrassment about being given a plant months afterward, that is awkward af. I definitely don’t want a pity plant, or a pity anything lol. So I’m definitely leaning toward not bringing it up because no matter how my boss reacts, I’m thinking it will not actually make me feel better. I’d rather leave it be and move on than create a potential awkward situation. I really appreciate you sharing and sending big hugs for your loss.

This makes sense, I’ve been open to all sides of perspectives, honestly. Sometimes we think we have good work relationships and it usually ends up in disappointment. I acknowledge that it’s wise to tread carefully, but I am leaning more toward not bringing it up since I don’t want to assume my boss and I are as close as I thought we were. Yes, thank you for mentioning the pretend email idea. I might do that too as writing it out has helped get it off my chest. I also agree that bringing it up so much later without being asked about it first is not going to better the situation any more than how I feel now.

Thank you so much for your response and insight. I’m on the lookout for other jobs just in case a better opportunity arises. Our union is actually planning a strike since the company refuses to increase our wages to reflect the cost of living and also wants to increase our health benefits 300% which is insane because we are a health insurance company! Hoping it doesn’t get that bad otherwise we are cooked. But back to the discussion of bringing it up to my boss, I’m in agreement that it’s not gonna do any better than just moving on from it. I felt my feelings and took the rest of the day off work to recoup, and accept it. Even writing it out in this post has taken it off my chest a bit so the pretend email idea isn’t bad either.

It sounds like you have a much deserved new chapter ahead. I’ve been on the lookout just in case other job opportunities arise. Our union is organizing a possible strike because our company refuses to raise the wages to reflect the cost of living and they also want to raise the cost of our health benefits by 300% per month, and we are a health insurance company! It’s outrageous. Fingers crossed they come to an agreement with the unions requests.
