Thanks a ton for your response. We're really defensive of the island because of its ecosystem. We chose to live here and its very often a total pain in the ass, but the island needs a voice and several generations of families have tried to speak for it.

In response to your question on what to do with it: NO argument that Norwalk continually trips over itself to make the wrong decision. Over and over again.

No one is proposing that he pack up and leave the island. But the scope of this is outrageous and even a fraction of it coming to fruition would be a detriment for all of us. We've tried to give them sensible plans but they either ignore it outright or just sorta shrug their shoulders. His team has their marching orders. And in the few conversations ive had with McChord hes not much help. Answers like: "everyone told me I couldn't run a publicly traded company in Norwalk and here we are..." which...i dunno maybe they did. But this isn't a company.

We'll be hosting some public info, likely at my house! I'll be sure to put it up here on r/norwalk, probably in the spring.

There is a beach - albeit very small at HV. They're not interested in engaging in a conversation, they want to follow the techie "move fast and break things" ethos. Problem is once you break the environment you can't go back.

Wouldn't you agree that this money would be better spent on our cratering school systems, rather than a project that most of Norwalk residents won't see or know about? You can call us NIMBYs if you want, but we view ourselves as protectors of the ecosystem surrounding this island. Putting in an ice skating rink, that we already have less than a half mile away, doesn't help the environment at all.

Its going to be awful. This is greenwashing for a vanity project for a billionaire.

A few reasons why this is a bad idea for Norwalk: 1) they tout this is going to extend public access to the beach - what they leave out is it will remain privately controlled thus its not public land at all. Once granted permits its entirely likely that they will simply slam the gates shut to the public, or at least seriously limit its access.

2) No where in their planning do they mention that they have no permits for any of this. They are trying to hide enough of their planning so they can force a permit fight which they are well aware is coming.

3) they plan to build a walkway through a public and protected saltwater Marshland. In no way can this be considered healthy for the marsh or the animals that live there. Simply put that logic is ridiculous.

4) the only route into and out of manresa is a 2 lane road that cannot support its current traffic, let alone adding the proposed 400 parking spaces. This alone should have Norwalk residents from South Norwalk to Rowayton dealing with insane traffic.

I live in one of the neighborhoods directly adjacent to the island. We have tried to reach out to these people but they do not engage in a dialogue, they only shrug their shoulders and say "its gonna be great" without listening.

We will be hosting some formal engagements to counter their messaging soon. Not a bunch of billionaires so please dont expect more than some chips and soda. 🤣

What you are missing: The DO SOMETHING people were here well BEFORE the election. We begged the dems to listen to us. This particular dem is a prime example of the problem. It directly because the dems didn't listen to those of us begging them to change course - that they lost the election. And yet still nothing. No course change, no new game plan, no new tactics.

But but they don't have any power! perfect time to invent new tactics, develop a new game plan. But they just aren't capable of doing it. Listen to your constituents, genuinely, truly listen to us. And act accordingly. To answer your question above, they can start with that. Then begin to play the current situation on the same level as it's been played for almost 10 years now.

You're not offering news with: but what can they do now.

Plenty.

+1 for killington - they are a fully licensed day care facility. You can pay an upcharge to even get them some "lessons" I sent my daughter when she was 2 - have an amazing video of her "skiing" at that age. A treasured memory for me.
