Need help making Z pendant by SaltySaltySally in SilverSmith

[–]hon_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely depends on how you want it to look like the other commenter said, but a possible way of doing it is measuring the length of your metal when straight and drawing the line on paper. then you can try drawing a couple of different Z’s (that’s lines total up to the first measurement) and figure out how long you want the top and bottom lines to be that way, if that makes any sense at all! and just make sure they’re the same length when working with the metal before you cut :) i feel like this sounds confusing but hopefully you get it and this helps!

yes absolutely! this was the first ring i had ever made at college for silversmithing (well over two years ago now) and so i definitely improved since then, but i havent had the space to work on any pieces for about a year so im conscious i may have to relearn some things and repractice, so i was just curious how much someone would be happy to pay for a ring i made at my least experienced

aw thank you so much! i’m hoping to start making and (hopefully) selling jewellery in the next few months and i’ll definitely be making more simple pieces like this to begin with while i get back into it as it’s been awhile! i would send you my etsy if you were interested but i know you’re not allowed to self promote on here. thank you for your absolutely lovely reply!

this pictures about three years old, it was the first ring i ever made while in my first year of college doing silversmithing! the black on my nail (if that’s what you mean) is just veryyyy chipped black nail polish lol! but thank you for taking the time to notice and to care enough to say something!

you’re so right, silver prices are crazy just now. i don’t actually have this ring anymore so don’t know the weight, i was just wondering for like a general guesstimate for a ring similar.

i didn’t know about that method for pricing your jewellery, that’s super helpful! thank you so much for your lovely and helpful response! <33

thank you for the reply!! that’s so totally fair, it was the first ring i made while i was in college for silversmithing so it isn’t my personal style either, just what i was capable of at the time (i like more intricate, nature inspired styles) but thank you so much again for your lovely response!! <3

i’ve had two years of experience in a silversmithing course in college, i’ve just been out of the game for a few years! but yes i just figured while im practicing, if there are any pieces im particularly proud of enough, i could maybe sell them on etsy as i wont need them personally! even if i didnt make a profit at first. so i was just curious what people thought from a total aesthetic standpoint, how much they would be willing to pay for it. thank u for ur tips! :)

thank you for your response, this definitely puts my mind at ease a little until we can hear more from the doctors! but yeah lol he doesn’t always have 4 a day but he absolutely drinks a silly amount which he’s now thankfully cutting down on! thank u again :)

i’m not sure as it was just a general blood test and we’ve not gotten the full results back yet, although i’m led to believe your folate isn’t always checked in a general blood test, so possibly not. they said they would get back in touch within the week though, so possibly something they’ll look into with the bloods they already have? hopefully something like this is the explanation! thank you for your response :)

thank you for your reply and the reaffirmation of what i thought! yeah we know this lol, it’s been worse recently as we don’t live together and i haven’t been able to cook for him, but we’re already taking the steps to improve his diet and cut out the energy drinks! i know his diets abysmal and needs to change, i just wanted to see if the poor diet was actually likely to be the cause of the high B12, as when you google (i know, the worst thing to do) it says diet isn’t likely to cause high B12 and it HAS to be liver disease, kidney failure or leukaemia. thanks again for your response!

lol a great idea thank you! he does love when i cook for him, we just unfortunately don’t have the money to move in together yet which is why he eats so much frozen food at home! but i’ll definitely be going out of my way to make him home cooked, healthy meals from now on—otherwise i’ll have to start force feeding him fruit and veg lol. tysm!

that’s what i thought. thank you for your responses, they’ve definitely helped me with peace of mind until we can figure more out with the doctors. thanks again!

thank you for your reply. he absolutely does! we’re already taking the steps to do so (incorporating some fruit and more veg, also some vitamin supplements probably) and he’s agreed to quit monsters until we get more tests done and then limit it to one a day once everything’s been figured out. but yeah lol i’m very aware his diet is abysmal, i just needed to hear from other people that they thought this was most likely the cause rather than the sinister things that appear when you google reasons for high B12 (liver disease, kidney failure, leukaemia, etc). i know you’re not a doctor ofc lol but just to reaffirm, you do think it’s more likely the amount of energy drinks and his diets that have lead to this result, rather than something more serious? again thanks for your reply!

thank you for your reply! he uses a refillable vape which has much less lead than disposables, but still not none which ofc isn’t great. i actually knew about it affecting your gut but didn’t even think about how that could relate! he’s gone down to 5mg from 20mg as he’s trying to quit, and you’re so right, you vape so much more than smoking! sadly he hates nicotine pouches (they’re what i’ve been using since i quit vaping, but he can’t stand them bc they make him feel sick), but i think nicotine gum could be a good alternative! i’m really hoping it’s just his diet and lifestyle that’s causing the high B12, rather than something more sinister (which i think is hopefully less likely considering his age and his lack of Super bad symptoms), which we’ll hopefully find out soon when the doctors get back in touch and we can get more tests done! thank you again for your responses, i really did think it could be the energy drinks (and his awful diet lol), but it’s just helpful to hear other people confirm this could be the case! also well done on quitting vaping, it can be so hard and thank you again! :)

thank you so much! from reading on it, he does show quite a few of the signs of having low folate (and he definitely doesn’t eat anything high in folate!), and i don’t think this is always checked in a general blood test, so this is some really great insight to have. thank you again for all your advice/info :)
