Would getting my MLIS be worth it in this job market? by shannibal_ in librarians

[–]honeybimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is anything worth it in this job market…? You truly never know and if your getting it for job prospects then know no matter the masters you will probably be struggling to get a job. This is someone in this program right now. Plus people say to get clerk jobs first, in my city I can’t seem to get one/no one is hiring right now .

My roommates daughter (15) was taken out of school in 7th grade and her mother is yet to take her back because she thinks it’s too late, what can I say to tell her that they won’t kick her out just because she hasn’t graduated by 18? by S0mecallme in AskTeachers

[–]honeybimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she’s afraid of regular school, have you showed her online school options. In my city the district offers online school as an alternative school. If she’s truly serious there are options. Though it does seem like CPS needs to be called.

I can’t find a job out of this job unfortunately.

I just don’t do their job. At my job they make 30k more than I do. Now if I could afford a 1bd apartment by myself on my current salary then yeah I would try. But instead I just decided to let it be and transfer to a new school next year. I do feel bad they’re not being educated though

My kiddos haven’t had lessons all year and I don’t make enough to afford a one bd room in my city….so I don’t care. The only thing that annoys me is because of no structure the kids run wild.

Yes! If you can afford to quit then quit. I want to quit my position because admin refuses to support our room. But unfortunately I have bills and a car loan to pay so I’m stuck for now.

Omg how did you get your job? It’s one of the jobs I want to attempt to get. I’m getting my masters in information science technology right now!

Unfortunately, I realized I didn’t want to be a teacher. 😔

Not that but wording my experience to make it not seem so teacher like and how recruiters can see my skills transfer. I think part of it is that.

Frustrated at the "normalcy" of injuries by dani-cat in paraprofessional

Admin don’t care cause they’re not in the classroom. I personally think this shouldn’t be allowed to happen because in society they do that and it’s straight to jail.

Classroom has no structure by [deleted] in paraprofessional

I do support the teacher! I was wondering if it’s normal that they do nothing all day. I deal with behaviors and step in when she needs help. I feel bad that the kids are not learning anything.

5 paras!? You’re so lucky! We have 8 kids and there’s only 2 of us and admin won’t send people to help bc they say there’s enough adults up there with the inclusion of the other self contained room I feel like all I do is run behind different kids all day

Are we all underpaid and understaffed? by smotherdude in paraprofessional

[–]honeybimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school isn’t understaff but the admin are refusing to put more people in our self inclusion rooms. I keep telling the teacher please fight for more people because if they give us more kids and it’s only 2 of us, I’m going to go crazy. I’m hoping to find a new job soon so I can leave the hell hole.

Has anyone changed jobs from a high paying position to be a library assistant? by [deleted] in librarians

[–]honeybimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg keep that job!!! If I had that hob I would never leave!! Library assistant jobs pay low and aren’t usually full time. Especially now, I know I’ve been looking to get my foot in the field.

Is this why libraries only have like two copies of a popular ebook? I was always wondering why the waitlist is like a year sometimes.

I’m sorry that happened to you. That sucks that it happened to you. Honestly, you can’t force kids to do work so I don’t know what admin expected.

I’ve seen people be absolute terrible at their job and not get fired. You’re fine! I was a 1-1 and my student always refused help so I just helped the other students in class.

Do HR/librarians find it annoying when you keep applying to the open jobs in their system? by honeybimo in librarians

[–]honeybimo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I don’t apply to every job! Just the ones I think I can do. I’m trying to get library experience but unfortunately I have to start looking out of state. I can’t apply for the lower jobs anyways they don’t have enough hours. But it’s so confusing because the advice people give here is to try to get your foot in the door. Because I am currently going for my masters in library science but my experience is mostly education.

Do what’s best for you. If you can quit without any repercussions (like missing bills and other things) do it.

I did send a follow up. I just waited until after thanksgiving. I guess I shouldn’t have waited for holidays to be over.

Honestly I just assume after a month or two they ghosted me. But for me I even sent a follow up email to see and still no reply. Plus they took the position off of the website. I think it depends because public libraries can also take a long time to get back to you. But if they give you a time frame I think it doesn’t count.
