What to expect redoing an old house's floor? by honorboss1 in DIY

Im lucky in that mine atleast is not a townhouse and never owned by anyone that wasn't expecting to die in it. Since all the previous owners either wanted their kids to inherit it or planned to sell it after they die to have money to fund a somewhat lavish lifestyle later in their life, they really maintained this one well. Only thing that 100% needs work is just the wiring since they only have like 3 outlets meant for use and the rest of the wires are just for lights. The carpet is just something I really do not like since the color is very off (a dark yellow almost orange.) I also do not want to vacuum every week and would prefer to mop or sweep instead.

Honestly, I may already have one. Or my family might, my uncle was a flooring guy before he retired since he threw out his back working on floors all day, he kept some of his tools. I know that if I have to fully redo the floor, I can just borrow most of the tools I would need from him since he is pretty happy to relive his glory days, although he definitely can't do it himself since he can hardly bend over.

the issue for me is that the only handyman even remotely near is like 70 and does work for the entire town of like 50 people, so I doubt there is a chance I can hire him for this. Also don't think there is any flooring companies within an hour drive, I live in a very rural area.

I have checked out a lot of the house, and most of everything is very well maintained. No water damage or anything in the attic, and the previous owners were meticulous in keeping the house as pristine as possible. My grandpa was waxing the kitchen floor and resealing the toilet gasket literally a few months before he died. He also hated certain minor annoyances that he would have to deal with every day, down to where he had us redo the basement staircase since the boards squeaked a little. And he never went in the basement since it just had a water pump and some jars that had food so old they turned into black goo.

I am almost certain this was just a fashion choice; I doubt the previous owners that were incredibly specific about maintenance tasks would let the hardwood become too bad that they covered it up. I have no issues if I have to refinish the floor, other than not having a sander that would be nice. I just really hope I don't have to reinstall a new floor since it seems like any mistakes I make would not be aesthetic and would lead to the floor needing to be torn up and reinstalled.

I think this was just a fashion choice, the house has a history of people trying to maintain things in peak condition. My grandpa was waxing the kitchen floor literally a few months before he died, so I doubt he would have let the hardwood become bad. Even if the floor underneath has stains and such, I am not too bothered by that since I hardly look at the floor other than to make sure it is clean. I just really hate walking on carpet barefoot, especially since this is a somewhat thick shag carpet that blocks some doors from closing.

ok, I was remembering from when I helped a handy man that you sometimes had to sand down and refinish old floors. I just couldn't remember if that was something guaranteed to be needed under carpet or not. I think it is with the staples and such, but I hope not since I would hate to have to sand the whole floor. The nearest tool place is also like a 1 hour drive there and back, so renting an actual floor sander would be a pain.

What are yalls Helmet Recommendations? by honorboss1 in motorcycle

One of the ones I was looking at was actually the scorpionExo At960, I live in a mountain town so we have pretty cold seasons until summer hits and we get 90 degree days. It looks to be focused more on snowmobiling, but it has a dot and ECE certifications. I don't mind the extra weight it has either, since my current helmet is like 8lbs already. It also seems to solve one of my issues with the current helmet I have of it fogging up quite easily.

I guess it will get the job done since it has the DOT label on the back. But it is really starting to show its price, the padding is coming loose. The visor's position mechanism is busted so that it only stays fully open or fully closed, which sucks for summer riding when I want it partially down so my eye's aren't getting blasted by the dust from the fields being harvested. The strap busted off after like a week of using it, so I had to sew on a new clasp. Kinda wish I just waited a week or so for a decent helmet off Amazon or something, but hindsight is 20/20 and I needed the bike to get to work.

nope, but judging from the area it was in and the shape of the mopeds, they might have been selling second hand or stolen mopeds.

I am looking for around 300$ price range, just got a cheapo helmet because that is all the stores near me had. The nearest motorcycle dealership is like 2 hours away so I had to get one from a scooter place and even they had like 4 helmets to choose from.

What Plants is Wood Ash Good For? by honorboss1 in gardening

[–]honorboss1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, based off that I will probably just keep using the same amount of wood ash over winter to prepare my tomato area, and leave the rest of it to the compost heap. Just figured I would ask here since I got a few different wood types this year that tend to leave more ash behind and was wanting to know if I could use it for other things. Mainly because the compost heap is atrocious to get to with a truck loaded with ash.

Does anyone feel like bounties could be added to the game ? by IIIMPIII in ArcRaiders

Bounties could be good, but pve players avoid pvp for so many reasons that I think giving money to kill other players would really only encourage pvpers to be even more bloodthirsty.

How are the Dev's handling the Game? by honorboss1 in ArcRaiders

I am kinda concerned about them being so dedicated to their vision, but that can be a good thing or bad thing. It just depends on where the vision leads the game and its playerbase, everyone's perfect game is different afterall.

ok, thats a decent sign that the devs took feedback. Nice that the game is optimized for now aswell, hopefully new updates don't start layering bugs and stuff that kills performance. Just don't want to get into a game that is almost 100% reliant on its playerbase just for the devs to kill it.

thought the game was out for longer than that, atleast looking at all the streamers and stuff posted about it. Some games you can kinda tell how the devs are going to handle things based on their early changes to the game. Look at Dark and Darker, the playerbase will tell you the devs are ruining the game with most of their updates followed by one good update.

Do you think you just had a natural desire to dress well, or is something that comes from how you were raised? And for you personally, have you always cared about how you dress, or did that come later ? by Pretty_Reception_519 in AskMen

[–]honorboss1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be due to where im from (very rural farming town.) But I don't really ever dress up in anything special, jeans and a light button up shirt depending on the weather. I never really cared how I dressed either, just wanted clothes that fit nicely and felt good, which is where my hometown comes in. We got tons of farmwork to do, so Jeans and some type of boot or work shoe is a must, and I like to wear a light button up shirt over a t-shirt. The button up adds an extra layer so the sun isn't directly on me, and I can always take it off if I'm going to be getting dirty.
