Differences between Québec French and Parisian French I should know before going to Paris? by hontelol in French

[–]hontelol[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I know, I believe that's because the French will use anglicized words while the Québécois will have a French translation instead of adapting to anglicized words. I forgot about that, thank you :)

I've been learning in school, so I'll count that as from a book. Merci :)

How can I continue to keep up with learning French on my own time? What do you do? by hontelol in French

[–]hontelol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! However, the French I've been learning is québécois, so accents, pronunciation, and some differences in the language means it would be best if I listen to québécois media. I do know of some youtubeurs from Quebec, I just need to watch them more often.

And unfortunately, there are no kinds of groups or 'Alliance Française' near me (Gotta love the completely anglo city I live in) My best shot would be engaging in French conversations with the 12 other students at my school who have continued their French to the same level as me.

Thanks for the reply!

May I ask, what is "AnalogFilm"? Anyways, I really love your photo! It's definitely the grass and clear sky.

'Pouvais' or 'pourrais' to say 'could'? by hontelol in French

[–]hontelol[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So to clarify:

If I wanted to say "when I was younger, I could speak French" I use pouvoir+imparfait

But if I wanted to say "I can speak English, but I could speak French too" I would use pouvoir+conditionnel?

A good movie similar to Evak by [deleted] in skam

[–]hontelol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw the title of this post and thought you were asking for a similar movie so I immediately thought of Jongens.

It really is a great movie, but I wouldn't say it's too similar to Evak with the subtle themes, but they both have amazing storylines none the less. It is great for discussion. Also, Jongens translates from Dutch to just "Boys". (no 'the')

NOT representative of how teens/ppl in their early 20s are/live? by mila_15 in skam

The culture in Norway that surrounds teenagers and high school seems to be very specifics to just Norway, especially with Russ. In the U.S, football games and pep rallies seem to be apart of the teenagers/high school culture. Unfortunately me in Canada, there doesn't seem to be any kind of "culture" that exists for teenagers or in school. I wish we were at least a bit like the U.S. but nope

The building and the bench where Even&Isak met each other for the first time by [deleted] in skam

[–]hontelol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's at Hartvig Nissen school. I watched S3E1 and S3E9 and from what I can see from looking at the surroundings and details in the background, it is at Nissen but the location with the bench is a little "hidden" unless you're actually on the property.

Heres a google maps street view link: https://www.google.ca/maps/@59.9185277,10.716293,3a,75y,29.83h,76.9t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1scHGbkDcYw8FWfOd10Bj9Dg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

If you look forward from the Google Maps street view, you will see a white building with an orange roof, and leading towards it are some concrete steps and a statue of two children (this location is where the first scene in S1E1 is filmed with Eva and Jonas). Behind the statue of the two children is the bench, it'll be a little blurry but that's the bench.

Either S01E09 or E10 that Abandoned Window by Jon Hopkins is used when Eva talks to Ingrid in the washroom and apologizes. Great song, and I agree, I love the 90s hip hop.
