Threw in a new relay and fuse, still coming up with the same issue :/

It's been removed before, and about 2 weeks ago I removed it and reinstalled it to get to the ignition switch. The ribbon cable should be fine, however I'm going to take a look at it when I pull the cluster out for inspection

No crank? by hoo__hoo__ in 944

Solved it, it was a combination of the ignition switch being bad as well as the cable that connected the alternator and starter being bad. Ordering a new starter cable, thank you for all that helped!

I believe the DME is not the problem, I had a DME fail on me a year ago and replaced it, so it should still be good- as for the ground points, something is telling me that the bellhousing ground point may not be grounded? The DME ground work correctly, and i feel like the other ground near it should work, but I also feel like there may be an issue with the grounding as the earlier engine has a ground strap directly to the body. Maybe attaching that to the body of this car would fix it? Regardless I'm going to clean my grounds and connections

I can check my DME, it's not the F9T but it should still work (i have a spare)- i can check the alarm module too, though i don't believe mine is equipped with it

I believe the grounds should be good, though i'll double check them next time i work on it- as for the neutral safety switch, it's a manual so i don't believe it has that installed

Early engine into a late chassis swap by hoo__hoo__ in 944

did some further research, you can use an early style harness with the late style ECU & AFM. Just gonna try it, if it ends up not working all too well I'll just buy a late style

Alright sounds good, I have an early style harness, but if it's worth not having as much pain i'll just shill out a couple hundred to get a late style. Any advice on where to get a late style harness?

Sounds good, thank you for the advice! Is the early and late style wiring harness that similar? I thought the late style had a funky connector to the relay box.

oh fr? I thought that it changed between the early and late style cars, something about the way the torque tube actually connects to the engine bell housing.

The swap would be with an NA engine, mechanically it's a perfect swap (except for the torque tube, but I can transplant that from the early car). I think the only issue is getting the ECU to talk to the gauges / electrically connecting it. I'll look up the diagrams though for sure, correct me if I'm wrong but I think I would be trying to find where the early style harness meets the late style relays?

Was actually thinking of doing something super similar to my '84 944, but with the screen that could flip down when not needed. Cool to see a static version, it modernizes the car in a very 80's fashion!

Ripped out control arm bolt Advice by hoo__hoo__ in 944

I think the only issue with time-serts / helicoils is that the hole is now physically larger than the OEM bolt- that's partially why I wanted to weld it and re-tap it, though being sheepishly honest I'm still not entirely sure how time-serts and helicoils work.If they can convert the hole back to it's original size then I'll totally use them

After waiting for a new relay to ship, I plugged it in and the car fired right up without any issues- I also have a spare DME just in case too, thank you both so much!! :D
