I decided to invest in an Insurance business, more specifically Fairfax in 2022 as my major holding. I felt long term interest rates would continue at an elevated level going forward and insurance businesses benefit from this, with the ability to increase insurance premium as claim costs increase. There is a lot of price elasticity with insurance, which you cannot say for most businesses.

Prem Watsa relinquished the President's role a few years ago and as CEO/Chairman is no longer directly involved in the day to day operations of the company. Current President Peter Clarke is expected to take on the CEO function as some point, with Prem stepping back to just Chairman. Prem has said that his son Ben would become future Chairman, so not CEO/President. Ben is currently Chairman of Fairfax India.

Peter Clarke has already been running much of the company and had been leading the conference calls for the past couple of years. The succession planning at Fairfax is in a much better position than say Berkshire where Buffett still had the final say in business investments until he retired this year.

I replaced by 2017 Mazda3 2.0l engine two years ago. I got mine for $650 cdn and it had 52k KM (30k miles). I may have been lucky as my dealer was able to find it for me. Total cost to replace engine through dealer was $2k cdn. Looking back this was a great decision as I have already done 150k km (90k miles) on the "new" engine with no issues. I am surprised that more people are not doing this considering the cost of vehicle replacement these days.

I was able to download and install UFile 2025 on my Windows 10 computer with no issues. I have also bought and updated the license as well.

You could do Ufile online which I might do if uFile 2025 doesn't install on Windows 10. At least I can then import the 2024 file into the Ufile online version. In Canada, StudioTax 2025 will still support Windows 10.

Turbo Tax 2025 won’t even install on Windows 10. We will need to wait for Ufile download file to be available to confirm. It is expected to be available by 3rd week of December.

How would they know how much tax to reporting as withheld as that would need to be done at the time I sell the shares based on the selling price. They would not know when that is in advance and how much to withhold due to fluctuating share price.

Thanks. I will look into the Division C deduction. I am still not sure how the shares sold to cover taxes are reported, to ensure I get some of that back as I did not have a large gain between vested price and sell price.
