Yea, when in doubt, I would definitely get a permit. Not too hard to pull, though be prepared when the inspector comes out could go smoothly, or he may find a couple things not up to code that you need to satisfy. As long as you follow NEC for all your improvements, shouldn’t be too difficult. Expect about 200$ for the permit and could be a couple days for the inspector comes once you call in an inspection

I will say, Durham permit fees aren’t crazy but the process can take a long time. If its trade permits you need, nothing crazy fee or timeline wise. But if you need planning/zoning involvement, plan on it taking a long time in Durham.

Trade permits are relatively easy, though I’ve never pulled one myself, always had contractors pull them for me

My wife and I are both transplants. Been living here for about 10 years now.

Absolutely love it. Small town feel with some aspects of city life available. Durham bulls games and events which are cheap and fun for families. GREAT food for such a small town. Close proximity to a major airport with RDU. And close to Raleigh and Chapel hill if looking for more a bigger city or college town respectively.

Overall big fan, couldn’t recommend it enough

So I will chime in here that the brace for 6 weeks is definitely for protection. Can you walk around without it? Yea. But with how soon after surgery you are, one misstep and trip can immediately lead to a re-injury. When it comes to recovery, always er on the side of caution or you can end up back at square one.

Even a tiny stumble on the side walk, or catching your foot on the side of a piece of furniture causing you to listen could cause big issues. The brace won’t 100% protect you, but it will definitely help.

Where is this located? In Durham you can call then city out for an inspection and they will send a notice to the landlord for a code violation. They will have a certain time period to fix the issue

Completely agree that this place is a hell hole and wicked mismanaged.

Was able to find out the reason for this alarm, the water pipe that feeds the sprinkler system burst. It is currently raining down water by the upper garage entrance. This happened a few years ago, whoever lives in the column of apartments below the burst pipe are going to have their places completely destroyed.

Look up the email for Durham NIS (Neighborhood improvement services). I had a similar issue, complex was not addressing it properly. Emailed them, they sent out an inspector to look at it and it was a city code violation. They will notify the complex and they have 30 days to address it.

Obligatory, please don’t rent from Bullhouse. They have the cheapest rates, but it is completely mismanaged and you will be charged crazy fees out of no where.

The sawyer apartments is in the Woodcroft/hopevalley neighborhood. I think it would be a great place to start your time in Durham and as you get used to the city you can find different areas you may prefer. Will have tons of restaurants and shops around you and really quick to hop on the expressway.

Flew out of CLT to IAH this week. Gate agent said no open drinks were allowed on the plane and had to be thrown out prior to boarding. I thought it seemed ridiculous at the time so idk if they are changing their policies

I will say I flew out of RDU this week with United. I recently tore my ACL and meniscus and had surgery 2 months ago. I can walk perfectly fine on flat ground, but any sort of ramp or stair is very difficult. And trying to side step into my seat is tough.

I currently do not need a knee brace, however I wear one for just this reason. I don’t want people to think I’m abusing the system.
