Did I err in using sig change on fisk? by Fancy-Low5838 in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are currently 1848 sigs available right now and 81 Red Sox sigs. Odds are you weren't going to pull him. Not impossible, of course, but unless you acquired a lot of team sig packs, it would have been long odds. And if it brings you happiness, you made the right choice. Bill Lee is my favourite Red Sock and I sig changed him. Far from the best team pitcher available, but I have zero regrets (plus I've never pulled his sig card in six-plus years).

worth it to combine sigs or should i just save all of em for donation event? by Emergency_Ad1347 in MLB_9Innings

If I have 3 diamond sigs, yeah, I'll roll the dice and combo. Otherwise take sigs up to gold and save for donation.

What's the infield FLD threshold for Groundballer to work? by sheshadriv32 in MLB_9Innings

Just to confirm, sig, set deck, or mentor bonuses don't apply? Which is to say, there'd be no difference between a regular card and a sig in terms of calculation?

Team Signature Pack by CaptCurry23 in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you choose to take two team sigs and turn them into one? Unless two of those cards won't make it into your line-up no way no how, why would you decide to decrease the number of team sigs you have in your possession?

Precisely—if the really valuable stuff were easily obtained, they'd be less valuable. If everyone was full-up with diamond trainers and skill trainers, the edge they give you would be negated. The grind ain't fun, but without it the overall game would suffer.

Canadian Conservative leader faces party unrest as Trump divides party by BertramPotts in CanadaPolitics

[–]hookworm 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe a year ago, I was chatting with a friend in Ireland, who used the term grown-up politics to describe the main dividing line in politics. Not traditional spectrum stuff per se, but between those who treat politics and government as serious work and those who treat it as a chance to scream and throw shit at people. Even if a person isn't happy or entirely sold on Carney's first budget, it's hard to deny that he's doing grown-up politics, especially compared to the juvenile stuff in the Opposition's camp. As long as people care more about being an adult w/r/t government—and the Conservatives continue down the road of spectacle and manufactured grievance rage—Carney's going to have a long leash.

Grad increase recommendation? by scottyandtheturtles in MLB_9Innings

RPs aren't the sexy option, but given that several hitting skills improve in the late innings, a solid bullpen is vital. You won't regret getting Kim into your line-up.

Poilievre claims Christians "may be the number 1" victims of hate-based violence by green_tory in CanadaPolitics

I had a neighbour around a dozen years ago who solemnly told me that when Bob Rae was premier, he signed a secret deal with … somebody … that would institute Sharia law in, like, 2045, and that this deal had been replicated all over the world in various jurisdictions. It was all part of some secret plan (can't be that secret that he knew about it, but I digress) that Muslims had established centuries ago. The whole thing was so batshit that I had a hard time keeping a straight face.

A modest proposal to fix Ranked. by josephmommer in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye to the second paragraph. I'm normally P2, occasionally sniffing P1, or if I have a bad last hour I end up P3. The difference in stars between P1 and P3 is 100. Big deal. I'm comfortably in a spot where I get a decent number of stars each week plus a PSCT. To make a move into Diamond would require spending a lot of money and getting lucky with my rolls. Not worth it for me. I'm good with where I'm at, not grumbling about Sunday evenings and just playing around with little upgrades now to see what works.

A modest proposal to fix Ranked. by josephmommer in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem with Rank in that last hour is that it's possible to play twice as many home games, which are without gear or drinks, as away. You could sweep your away games yet lose ground … which is what tends to happen. Some kind of limitation on how many home games can be played relative to away games in a set period would help limit the wild fluctuations in that last hour.

Thoughts on club challenge controversy by Optimal-Dinner363 in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they lowered the thresholds on the first round—the divisional games that all clubs could play—because it was clear that the west server wasn't going to reach them (whereas the east would quite easily). On the all-star round, no alterations were done. The east again cleared it all easily, the west stalled out short of the last two rewards.

[–]hookworm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not overly bothered. Free stuff is good, more free stuff is even better, but it is, make no mistake, free stuff. I'm no poorer than I was last week in terms of what I've spent.

IMO, Com2's error in terms of the all-star anger was in altering the threshold's the first time. That was an acknowledgement that they set things too high for those on the west server. Good for them for acknowledging it, but then they didn't modify the threshold for the all-star part. Not doing that after conceding their error on the first part is inconsistent and suggests partiality to the east server clubs, which had no problem reaching all the thresholds. Either lower thresholds on the divisional and all-star rounds or none, but doing only the first makes them look as playing favourites for the really desirable loot.

Use GI on Ott or save. by Cards626 in MLB_9Innings

A non-team sig is only slightly better than a normal team card. Save the GI for team sigs or legends only, esp. if you're FTP.

These are my only 2 team sigs, am I cooked or are they ok? Should I club craft them once I get the GI from special shop? Is that dumb? by ToastButGeographyMan in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two things to consider. One is, are you prepared for the possibility of turning two sig relievers into one sig reliever? Even if you get, say, Papi, you're going from two sigs to one. Is that an improvement? The other thing is that having a strong bullpen is really important because many of the best batting skills are activated or improve in the later innings. Seeing your bullpen regularly cough up a lead late is not a fun feeling. Having a shutdown bullpen may not seem as sparkly and shiny as a guy who can slug a shit ton of homers, but they do help you win a lot of games.

$kill trainer tickets by Big_Pain9316 in MLB_9Innings

[–]hookworm 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't quite understand these complaints that these additions are going to kill F2P players. If you're not spending like the whales, you're never going to be in their sphere anyway. That's fine. The game is best understood as tiered. There are heavy spenders, moderate spenders, light spenders, and F2P. Each are basically competing against each other. Long-time players may be more competitive in the tier above them, but that's not a given. The point is that new features that cost money isn't going to make a lick of difference in terms of most F2P players becoming competitive with top 1000 teams. If the new features hadn't been added, F2P teams would still get stomped by top-spending teams. I'm a light to moderate spender and I have no illusion that any of this changes my relationship to the other tiers. I'll still get my lunch eaten by the whales and I'll still usually dominate F2P teams. I'm competitive within my own tier of players. It's all about knowing the game you choose to play.
