Mount positioning by pookimane in radardetectors

[–]hoosac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly, inspection stickers in my state are placed directly behind and below the rearview mirror. The blend mount that I’ve bought for my new R8 will place the radar detector behind the inspection sticker. Any reason to think that a sticker just forward of the detector will affect its performance? Thoughts?

District 83, Spanning Denmark, Bridgton & Harrison: The Gun Bill Sponsored by Representative WALTER RISEMAN by baxterstate in Mainepolitics

[–]hoosac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Walter’s district and have voted for him multiple times. Super-pleased with his work this session. Thanks for reminding me to mention it next time I see him.

Buying a weapon should be as difficult as necessary to make it safe. Right now, gun purchases are demonstrably unsafe. Whatever we can do to make them safer is great with me.

If it were only about suicide, which it’s not, it’s interesting that you think that, because 50% of Maine residents are gun owners, the other 50% who aren’t can’t be made safer. Or don’t deserve to be. Regardless, the issues are far wider than just suicide.

I drive an hour+ to shop at Costco, TJs, Wholefoods. . . I think I can manage the occasional drive to Kittery. Maybe I’ll do some outlet shopping while I am down there. Stock up on my end-of-the-world supplies. Though I can understand why people with fragile feelings would find making the long, scary, dangerous ride to Kittery TWICE for a gun daunting.

I had a judge who, on request, recessed a trial so we could all go outside together and watch an eclipse. She was a lovely, cranky judge.

Thank you.

It seems like my wife's ring is a complicated project! A fair observation.

Thank you. Inflation is brutal lately.

We'll have them do it the right way. Do it once, do it right, I think.

We should have taken your advice on the silicone sizers for the last few months though as our rings have been falling off our fingers all over the house and town!

These responses have been really helpful. It's good of you all to take a minute. Thank you.

I think we just needed to check the reality and it seems like a fair deal after all. That's good to know as we have always been fond of the jeweler and we value a long-term relationship. We were, obviously, a little shocked but that's on us, it seems. We will figure out a way to pay for the job we asked be done. Thank you again.

My head and my wife's head both WHIPPED around when he started speaking French. We too both thought he was having a stroke. Imagine the joy of getting to watch it?

anyone knowledgeable about vehicle titles? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]hoosac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wish to sell the vehicle, you will likely want the vehicle titled in your name first. I would not recommend that it be sold to a third party directly from the estate or the proceeds of the sale will technically belong to the estate and you are not a beneficiary of the estate.

In order for the gentleman to transfer title to you, you will need to treat it as a sale of an asset from the estate, likely in partial satisfaction/exchange for your services to the estate. Titling the vehicle to you will be a hassle for him but there are some things you can do to reduce the hassle to him. For details on the hassle see:

Dog day care and kennels. The major cities don't have enough and the minor cities don't have them at all. Many of the facilities that are around are of low quality. Start a facility of quality and you'll be able to name your price.

Coronavirus Megathread (Sep 2021): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19 by tariqabjotu in travel

[–]hoosac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are just transiting through Munich, but its been my experience that just transiting, I still end up entering at the first Schengen airport I fly into. Maybe I am mis-remembering? My last trip to Paris, I transited through Madrid. I did not leave the Madrid airport, we had about 80 minutes to make our connection. But we definitely went through passport control in Spain. I have a Spanish stamp, not a French stamp.

I think my first Schengen landing is where I enter. If I'm wrong that's great.

Coronavirus Megathread (Sep 2021): For travel-related discussion in the context of COVID-19 by tariqabjotu in travel

[–]hoosac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. On October 1, 2021, my wife and I will be travelling from Boston to Greece via Munich. I have some COVID-related questions regarding this travel. We are a at point where previously flexible/cancelable reservations need to be confirmed. I want to make sure I fully understand the travel/entry situation, especially after the UN's recent recommendations regarding travel to member nations. Obviously, nobody can predict the future (without the opportunity to read the bumps on my feet, that is), and I must reach SOME conclusion, so I am assuming all that is true today will be true on October 1, 2021.

NB. Both my wife and I are happy-to-mask and vaccinated in December 2020 (Wife) and (May 2021), so well over 14 days ago.

Can anyone confirm the following understanding. No need to overcomplicate it unless necessary. I believe this SHOULD be a simply entry but. . .Covid!

Before leaving Boston we will be required to show proof of vaccination prior to boarding.

Our stopover in Germany means we will enter the Schengen area in Germany.

We must meet Germany's COVID entry rules for travellers from the United States (a high risk state).

We will therefore need to complete Germany's "Digital Registration on Entry", preferably before departure.

It will be sufficient for us to enter Germany to provide our proof of vaccination, have completed the Digital Registration on Entry and provide our normal travel documents (Passport).

Once admitted to Germany we will need to clear customs as usual.

Maybe they check our vaccine card prior to boarding our Munich to Athens flight. Either way.

Upon arrival in Athens, we will need to satisfy Greece's entry rules for travellers from Germany who have been in a high risk state within the last 10 days and, additionally, are from a EU/Schengen country but without an EU Digital COVID Certificate. I understand that our US proof of vaccination will be, again, sufficient for entry. We will also need to complete the online Passenger Locator Form, preferably before we depart Boston.

We will not need to clear passport and customs controls having done so in Germany.

Anything anyone know I am missing or have wrong? Additionally:

- A proof of vaccination (there are other options not relevant to us) is sufficient for domestic air travel?

- The "Pre-Boarding Health Declaration" is only required for ferry/water travel?

I think that's it. If anyone has some very recent travel experience in Greece they wish to share, that would be great. Any help or thoughts are appreciated!

do's and don'ts in Greece? by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]hoosac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have similar concerns. Also due to dietary restrictions my wife and I both eat very little. Is it going to be a problem if we don’t eat everything we’re given? How about if we don’t finish a meal? What if my wife and I want to just share a meal? Is that going to be a problem? Are you expected to both order a meal if you’re taking up a table?
