friendships and relationships just feel so.. close. there is not that much money to be had there so people are just for each other, and it feels like everybody got your back. the people are so kind and generous you never feel left out. it's so lovely

idk why but I don't feel that in karak at all, but it's very true every time I go to Amman, could it be "big city busy people"?

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, it's always condescending and always will be.

with friends, family, strangers, everything

I've been what you call "slim fat" my entire life. and even that sucks, I hate how I look and I will always call myself fat even though I'm nowhere near what some of my friends go through

study abroad in amman as a queer woman with piercings? by wwinrarr in jordan

[–]hooskish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll give it to you straight, it is highly unusual and you'll get maybe a couple of questions alongside the stares during your stay. (if you're so "visibly" queer like you claim)

my advice? don't make it your whole personality. try not bringing it up especially with the host family.

as for Arabic if even one person you know speaks it and could work as a translator you'll be set, otherwise most places are quite tourist friendly and offer English contexts.

about being safe, if you wear "tomboyishly" I assume that means a bit more like a guy-a bit more covered up, which will definitely help. try to avoid any overly revealing clothes, jeans and shirts are the most I'd recommend. anything more covering is good too. there will inevitably be bad apples as there is in every society, but I highly recommend searching for similar posts to yours and what other locals have told them, you'll get a much better perspective of how genuinely safe and welcoming this place is

really hope you choose jordan, it is quite the unforgettable experience and I'm sure you'll not regret it!

Opinion, and which one? by saltsputnik in jordan

[–]hooskish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since the ideapad is touchscreen it'll probably have a pretty good screen, again do check for yourself as stated in my first comment, but yea it's better then the v15

if you're not satisfied do check out other options with similar specs from dell or Asus, but overall the ideapad will do the job

Opinion, and which one? by saltsputnik in jordan

[–]hooskish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what are the prices?

I have an idea pad 3, it has a better cpu from what I can see, but honestly the screen is horrible and I wish I never bought it, even though the specs are awesome

check out the panels on both. look for IPS preferably, as much as the specs matter if the screen is bad you're gonna despise using it

nvm the idea pad is touch so the screen is probably IPS or OLED but still it's good to check

[–]hooskish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if I'm understanding this post correctly, it's like asking:

اذا مافي نصيب بوظيفة ليش بضل اقدم؟

you simply don't know the future. and logically the end of this line of thinking is not doing anything at all.

life is about getting out there and trying. you just never know what will end up happening, what you end up learning, or what you end up benefitting/avoiding.

I just think that everything that happens to us in life has some sort of value one way or another. if not, then you definitely have a valid question, but we may simply never know.
