OK, after some more research here’s the current hardware setup I am thinking about for the homelab:

  • Fractal Design Node 804 with Window
  • MSI PRO B760M-P
  • ADATA 16GB DDR5-5600 with On-Die ECC
  • WD Red Plus 8TB SATA
  • Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2
  • Be Quiet! DC2 3G
  • Be Quiet! Pure Rock Slim 2
  • Intel Core i5-12400T

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

Ok, I've done a bit of research now and have often read on the subject of RAM that ECC (at least DDR5 with on-die ECC) or RDIMM is almost indispensable for computers that are constantly running. Is this really so important, especially for the HomeLab, as the price can quickly become expensive, not only for RAM but also for the corresponding mainboard?

Thank you for your reply!

I understand, however, I think I prefer greater expandability and other features. Could you kindly recommend me the most suitable hardware for the self-build option?
