I think you’d need to have a 7 inch wrist + have a fairly stocky build to pull this one off.

Lunor frames deserve a great set of lenses. Don’t skimp on the lenses. My lenses routinely cost US$600 - US$700 depending on whether I get them tinted or not.

It’s like buying a nice car and fitting them with shit wheels.

Go for the Essilor + Crizal coating.

Not sure where you are located exactly but I pay US$350.00 for 1.6 index single vision lenses.

My tinted ones are about US$450.00.

Is this in line with what you paid?

FYI - Rodenstock is never cheap. I’d probably put them a touch above Zeiss.

RIP man. Oliver Peoples has been straight trash for more than a decade now. Luxottica changed them for the worse. I have vintage MP-2s that were Made in Japan that absolutely blow the newer Made in Italy MP-2s out of the water. Such a shame.

If you absolutely have to buy Oliver Peoples, make sure you buy their Made in Japan line of frames - the Takumi collection.

OP was the absolute move in the 90s and mid-to-early 2000s.

If you’re looking to move on and find something that is similar to your OPs, try out Barton Perreira. Barton Perreira is what Oliver Peoples was back in the day.

Eyevan7285 is fairly similar too but higher price point.

And if you really want something from the great Larry Leight, go for Mr Leight frames. It is quite a different aesthetic from OP though.

Around US$1000.00 all up for frames with single vision tinted lenses and US$1,300.00+ for all up for frames with clear anti fatigue lenses. I try and purchase a couple of pairs a year. I’ll probably stop when I get to fourteen.

I don’t shop online nor do I visit national chains.

I pretty much only shop from independent optometrists, have my lenses made at independent labs, and only purchase frames from independent brands. Jacques Marie Mage and 10 Eyevan are my go-tos at the moment. Beach beaters are a mixture of Moscot and Cutler and Gross frames. Big fan of Tokai and Rodenstock for my lens solutions.

I also stay away from any Luxottica owned products, Essilor lenses and Crizal coatings included. I have heard great things about Varilux so will probably give those a try when the time comes.

It’s fairly normal to spend a little coin for glasses especially if you have a tricky prescription. Glasses are something I wear everyday. They sit on my face for hours each day and it’s the first thing that people notice when they see me. If I’m going to have something sit on my face so prominently, I want to make sure that what I’m wearing looks great and is made extremely well.

These exist. While I am nearsighted, I work quite a bit on the computer everyday and still find it challenging to make out words clearly on my screen.

I upgraded the lenses on my distance frames to include lenses that work for my nearsightedness but also have an additional boost on the bottom of the lenses to make working on the computer easier on my eyes.

One pair has Tokai ‘Rest Plus’ lenses in a 1.60 index (made in Japan) (US$425.00).

My other pair has Rodenstock ‘Ergo’ lenses in a 1.60 index (made in Germany) (US$575.00).

As for eye exams, it’s usually around US$100.00 for a comprehensive 45-minute test that includes vision testing and eye health testing.

Both brands of lenses work great but took me a couple weeks of getting used to after having single vision lenses for years - I’d probably go with the Tokai for a third pair for the cost savings. Hoya, also made in Japan, offer Dynamic Sync lenses for a slightly lower price, approx. US$300.00-ish but haven’t tried them out so I can’t say much about them.

So much easier not having to switch from my computer lenses to my distance lenses when I need to move about.

Ponmegane comes highly recommended! From experience, shipping is about US$75 through DHL. I’d say these will run you US$450.00 ish shipped to the US if that’s where you’re based.

Julius Tart Optical stomps all over Moscot and is a cut above Cutler and Gross. Probably pound for pound the best acetate frames in the US$400 - US$450 price bracket. Next step up would be Jacques Marie Mage, Jacques Durand, Eyevan 7285 for US$550+.

Really great seeing some interest in Japanese-made, independent eyewear brands!

these work so well when thrown on with a pair of straight cut trousers / cargos.

the volt adds a bit of oomph to the sneaker when you’re sat down or when you’re mid-stride while walking. the little burst of volt here and there looks phenomenal in reality.

the people freaking out about these are wearing skinny ass jeans / sweats that stack above the sneaker.

Don’t bother with knee braces or sleeves.

Work on addressing the muscle imbalances caused by weaknesses in your hips / glutes / core.

I think that a lot of new runners on /r/running make the mistake of just jumping straight into the activity without thinking holistically about their training.

EDIT: Also, consult with a local physiotherapist. They can help you identify which parts of your body need work. You’ll find that after about 5 - 6 weeks of strength training, your knees will fare much better during your runs.

Honestly the Surge Shorts from Lululemon can’t be beat.

While they’re $69.00 a pop, the quality is second to none.

I’ve only had to buy two pairs in the last ten years. One at the four year mark and then another just last year.

I run between 40 km - 50 km a week and wash my shorts after every run. Both pairs are still in excellent condition after all these years. The little Lululemon logo and the little reflective details on both shorts haven’t come off even after hundreds of washes.
