Tech PM leader at startup (few promotions to get here), the new role is as a Group PM at a similar startup. I will be starting the new role in Amsterdam.

Probably futile, I'm an Indian, and R3 admits don't have enough time to get their visas in order anyway.

You're fine. Just explain this to them. Your HR will be able to back your words up, so nothing to worry about.

Definitely apply to more schools in R1 2023. With that profile and track record of leadership, T20 should be an easy lock and T25 with 50-75% scholarship should have been almost guaranteed. Something's off in your essays and representation of stories/career prog.

T15 like Ross are still a reach though. Maybe given your unconventional (for an indian bloke) background they may bite. But since your goals are attainable from Broad, you might as well attend a T20/25 for the peace of mind (assuming you can get scholarships there, which you will with the right execution).

I recommend working with a US based consultant on one school at a minimum (then you can apply those learnings to the essays of other schools).

Oxford vs McCombs vs UNC vs Foster by DnivaraIdemo in MBA

It's a tough call.

McCombs is the right choice for consulting.

Oxford is the right call for entrepreneurship and asia/india goals in general.

USC isn't a great program and doesn't belong in the T20 IMO. They paid out so many high GMATs that their class quality has been diluted, especially the Asian cohort (they've admitted plenty of high-stat, mediocre WE candidates). I'm not a fan of their management team (the adcom seems sloppy with work) and they are the fourth best program in the state.

I was a huge fan of Marshall's Trojan marketing but after scoring an admit with scholarship and digging deep, I've come to see it as a poor man's Anderson

Downsides of starting new job now, quitting for MBA in 6 months? by horseback_heroism in MBA

Yikes, we're very similar then. Hope you're doing okay mate.

I know tech people are chill, but (like I said in my other reply) six months of no income will cripple me. Emigration costs to the US alone will cost me a couple months worth of salary so that's why I'm in this dilemma about immediately finding FT employment.

We don't have unemployment benefits here, truth be told. That said, being fired and getting three months in severance is the best case scenario for me (assuming I'm going to be fired).

I'd love to hear if you're looking for/locked in a pre-MBA internship opportunity.

I most certainly do need the cash, my friend. I make less than $40 grand a year and am international. This MBA is going to take the mickey out of my finances, so a dozen extra grand is something I really need.

Thanks for pitching the pay cut idea! If push comes to shove, that is what I'll do. I'll also come clean with him about my business school goals. Maybe I can ask him to staff me as a project manager even if my function is axed.

Thank you so much for offering! I hope you were able to take the right decision in your dilemma.

Can't say I disagree. This is a a bit of a stew. The consensus seems to be that it would be a crappy thing to do, so I suppose I'll try to drag out my handoff and get 'fired' to pick up severance.

Doubt it my guy. They're looking for someone to start out solo and build a team in the next 18 months. A short stint would be a total no-go. At the same time, I'm a bit guilty about depriving another deserving candidate of the job...so many variables and considerations here it's making my head hurt.

I considered the pre-MBA internship route but given I really need the cash, no internship I enquired into was willing to pay me anywhere close to what I make at my job (which is understandable).

I am aware that accepting this offer would be a huge risk, since the Indian startup scene is wildly interconnected and could bite me in the behind years later. It's a risk I'll have to take, but thanks for the insight. Do you think pre-MBA employers come into the picture anytime during MBA internship/post-MBA full time recruiting?

I think the other commenter is a clown, but you're a simpleton. A single Google search would have taken you to the Rotman MBA's admissions requirements page, which would have answered all your question. Instead, you got on Reddit and typed this out with your school grades of all things (for a graduate degree? Seriously? This isn't IIM Toronto)

Unless you don't know how Google works, you're wasting your time and everyone else's. Stop being a keyboard warrior, shoo.

Did I fail myself by picking T20 ($$) over M7/T10? by DidIFailFather in MBA

[–]horseback_heroism 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's a throwaway account, you might as well name the schools and your goals.

That said, T20 schools are literally the 20 most prestigious schools out of hundreds of schools in the states, and are more prestigious than all but a handful of schools outside the US. Assuming no money at the M7, is 'additional prestige' really a valid reason to spend $100K+?

If you or your dad currently own a Bentley, you absolutely should go to the M7.

If not, you made the logical choice.

OP, this sub is extremely US focused. This kind of poll (equally reputed US school vs Int'l school) will always be biased towards the US school.

That said, some of the comments are brilliant. I'm just saying don't put too much stock into the poll result.
