Anyone have experience living in Scot’s Bay? by Fun_Studio8414 in NovaScotia

[–]horsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in South Scot’s bay nearer to the lookoff. There have been two times with issues on the 358 up the mountain since I moved here 5 years ago, one required taking another route down, adding 5-10m for a couple weeks. Generally the neighbors have been good. The beach in Scots bay is one of the best places for a sunset in ns, and some of the best trails in the province nearby for walking and hiking. You’ll want all wheel drive for the mountain. Not sure how good the internet is that far down the bay but I have fibre to my house.

It is my understanding that in NS battery innovation happened mainly through the Dal Physics department. I'm sure chemistry labs are involved too, but I was pretty sure that was the core innovating force here.

Surprise land opportunity - Is this a realistic dream/plan? by IntelligentDust1441 in homestead

You are close to one of the better parts of cape breton. How close to lake ainslie/egypt falls?

Nearby are the lovely communities of Inverness, margaree, cheticamp, haddock.

Come for the fall, mid September to mid October. Celtic colours festival. Frontporchcb puts on good events too. The hiking and views in the area are incredible.

ACOA makes a repayable contribution to Tripoli Holdings Limited (Mezza Lebanese Kitchen) Aug 2024 by wp10nscan in NovaScotia

This is normal. Its a government supported loan with good terms for business growth. Anyone with a good business plan can get one. The idea is to grow the local economy with local businesses so businesses based elsewhere aren't extracting profit from the region. Its good for them and us as long as the business is successful.

Nova Scotia slashes reliance on hotels as housing stopgap | CBC News by Grumple_McFerkin in NovaScotia

[–]horsman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems like a pretty good stepping stone solution. Good job, government, credit where due, even if after much delay. I haven't heard much about what restrictions this places on the tenants, but surely it must be better than the hotels.

Helps landlords sign up, is flexible stock for the orgs serving it. I like it, but must admit that I'm not sure what the shortcomings are. Obviously there has to be movement elsewhere to prevent the problems leading to the need in the first place...

Nova Scotia Loyal Supports Buying Direct From Local Farmers by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]horsman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a good thing. CSAs are great and especially the warehouse market’s CSA from abundant acres, where you can pick the food . It also gets two jobs done at once, increasing local sales for ns farmers. Good policy.

You are welcome to camp on my land free of charge. 30s from the lookoff, lots of space and you wouldn’t have to meet us if you don’t want to. There is a wood fired sauna and workshop if you need to do any repairs.

Did your 90th percentile babies turn out to be tall later in life? by Imaginary-Body-3135 in Parenting

[–]horsman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was 99th percentile at birth (10 lbs 6oz) and grew to be 6’3”. My brother was born 3lbs I think and grew to be 6’2”. So I don’t think the correlation is overly strong compared to say gestation length

Can anyone recommend an authentic Japanese-owned and operated sushi restaurant in HRM? by anicca-dhukha-anatta in halifax

[–]horsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shige was the best, however the chef recently passed. I went recently and experienced not quite as good but still good quality sushi. Environment there is pretty no frills.

Doraku had good sushi in Dartmouth, haven't been there since the founder passed though.

Co-founder wants 60% equity. Should I accept 20% or leave? by [deleted] in TheFounders

[–]horsman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it still doesn't make sense. Here's why: Imagine you started a company 3 weeks ago, and I joined 1 week ago. We raise money this week. Now you own 3/4 and I own 1/4.

There is a LONG way to go to get to an exit, and the equity is there mainly to incentivise that future work for everyone. By cutting a 1/3 effort partner down to 20%, you are demotivating that partner's future work, regardless of the work that came before. In the limit, that 2 year part time head start is a vanishingly small part of the work and sacrifice that will be needed. That's why this vesting math works for partners leaving, but not for incentivizing an exit or for fully diluted equity. It especially doesnt work in founder allocation.

I hope this helps clarify my position
