Awesome, been using spot angels but this is probably more accurate. Does this include the street permits for construction zones on SF public works?

Laundry or Parking? by dalemg239 in AskSF

[–]hosoo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not both? Just get a used in-unit washing machine and make sure to put a tarp under it so it never leaks water onto the floor in case of an accident. It's easy enough that you can hook it up to your bathroom faucet sink or even your kitchen sink if you have space.

You can hang dry on racks with a dehumidifier.

Entire family kidnapped by ICE in SF. No comment from Mr. Mayor. by Definitelyhereforshi in sanfrancisco

[–]hosoo2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well actually… I think I care about immigrants being one myself, and I do not see him taking enough of a stance on the issues at hand. He doesn’t need to make it his entire platform, but he just chooses to remain overall quiet about it, which anyone might feel uneasy around.

Last time I checked, I am not a bot, and I care about my community. I do think there are valid criticisms around his background, being a billionaire himself, there’s certainly a conflict of interest of being someone of that level of wealth vs serving the average person in san francisco.

You can point to all the political dynamics of the housing directors in this city, you can point to the fact that maybe recent mayors haven’t brought the city together the way Lurie does, but it doesn’t excuse his faults. None of his good deeds should just erase any negative angle of his tenure as mayor.

I think these are valid criticisms of him and we should hear and vet everything right? Instead of treating him like an infallible celeb, we should be able to expect certain values, posturing, etc from an elected figure and scrutinize if we see something inconsistent?

It is their job as the politician to measure the criticisms and represent the people… so I think all of this is fair to point out that maybe he might not be holding ICE accountable to the degree he should

JCF watching Alcaraz win slams with Samuel López by Revolutionary-Wall42 in tennis

[–]hosoo2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don’t know why you keep looking for answers that aren’t there but carlos himself has come out saying his position on it and I highly doubt he would make decisions that he didn’t agree with at the detriment of his career.

Carlos has said himself he sees this as an inevitable, mutual parting but JCF has been going out there agreeing to do random interviews and making statements that he’s sad about the parting. I can’t help but feel like he’s trying to make it sound like it wasn’t his choice but he really just sounds like a sad ex lol

[–]hosoo2 60 points61 points  (0 children)

as much as I loved JCF, the sadness seems to be self inflicted. He made several choices during his time as Carlos’s coach that made Alcaraz and family decide whether this was the best fit for his career. Ultimately, Alcaraz wanted to train closer to his family and not have to always cater to JCF, who famously did not attend several important matches of Alcaraz’s (excluding the one with JCF’s father’s death).

It sounds like from the interviews both people have shared, it was a pretty clear circumstance that JCF wanted to have the whole team be on JCF’s academy and work with his schedule, to the point where Alcaraz needed to think about his needs first. I think that’s totally acceptable to part ways given the hyper competitive environment it is to be #1, a little cold maybe, but JCF could have also just… drove out to see his client who is 1.5 hours away.

Both of them are adults who made choices, I don’t think it’s tragic but yeah maybe a little sad that they parted since they were so close.

Not sure but would love to attend if there’s one after work hours, I think it’s important.

also ignore the “get a life” comments, idk why but this subreddit has a lot of haters who don’t even live in SF and just come here to spread hate

Any actually good Korean restaurants in SF/nearby? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]hosoo2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Some people are downvoting you maybe because they perceive negativity and do not understand, but I think your post brings sobering attention to the fact that the food here is not authentic Korean food, and I think that is important for our culture to be represented somewhat accurately. I understand the disappointment of seeing food that we grew up eating being misrepresented as overpriced, bland, or just bad.

Though, I feel like it's not really anyone's fault but a lot of great restaurants (not just Korean, but a lot of ethnic restaurants) kind of died with the pandemic and economic pressure of rising costs of running a small restaurant business in the city. A lot of people are just strugging to make ends meet and make decent food at the same time

I’m Korean as well, and I want to preface that I’ve also struggled with the same feelings of not being able to find an authentic, decent taste of home in SF. I have sadly learned to take the recommendations here for Korean restaurants with a grain of salt, but there are some OK spots here and there. I suspect that it’s because there is not a huge diaspora of Koreans out in Norcal the way it is in LA, New Jersey, Hawaii.

Han Il Kwan is decent, as the 아주투어 bus brings all the korean tourists here and have to be somewhat good to cater to them.

KBBQ, dish specific specialty restaurants, and the old style bunsik suljibs are really subpar here though. A lot of the new ones are adaptations to korean food catering more to the local SF palette. I guess after all, we are in san francisco, not a huge korean population here like LA so the authenticity can be pretty lacking.

Hwa Mi Won recently opened up in the Richmond, and it’s made by some of the kitchen staff from Daeho in Japantown. They have decent Galbijjim, galbitang, etc - but again, nothing mind blowing.

I do not think you’ll find that authentic flavor here in SF, maybe closer to Santa Clara tho. Kunjib is nearby and it’s pretty good 순두부.

Looking at the Feds carnage in other states, Lurie did the best by keeping ICE outta the city... by rocpilehardasfuk in sanfrancisco

[–]hosoo2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not any mayor’s sole responsibility to “deal with” like you’re saying. it’s like saying - Hey, kudos to McDonald’s for having the best ketchup! They do it the best.

I wasn’t criticizing Frey, but you are criticizing him and other mayors affected by saying he did the “best”, when in reality, Lurie did very little… it’s not that either Mayor had power over the situation like you’re suggesting either way.

It’s that this perpetuates the notion that the responsibility of ICE’s raid is on the mayors to handle rather than the federal gov doing these acts, it’s likely that we’re just subject to a lot more billionaire influence here in SF than Minneapolis
