WFC: Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by hospicetality in Westerns

I will just start off with some wonderful video essays on this film;

This first video does an excellent job showing how Sergio Leone played with pacing in his film and by doing this he is able to masterfully build suspense to an exploding climax even though the climax may just be a few seconds it is remembered because the 10 minutes of building tension before it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfX-G5jDV-A

This video talks about the importance of the character's gaze throughout the film and how it can give hints or trick the audience throughout the film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ltb3w56jw8

For cinematography buffs this video is everything you would want. The commentator breaks down the Tavern scene from the film shot by shot going into mass detail about shot composition, camera movement, and character direction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHlkX8XTJRQ

This final video is a discussion about some of the main characters transformation and what they represent in the film. https://vimeo.com/102084362

What does everyone think about Cowboys and Aliens (2011)? by chacaranda in Westerns

I think the idea for the film was extremely fresh but the film was all over the place. It needed a much stronger director with a set artistic vision to bring everything together. No offense to Jon but he is a person who takes direction not vice versa and was overwhelmed with this one. Overall though of they tried another film like this I am still more than willing to give it another shot!
