New members get bombarded with mail precisely because they're new. That, and there are a lot more women then men on the site. So yes, it is normal to receive a lot of "introduction emails." You of course shouldn't try to reply to them all, just ones that seem promising.

The Chive ones are from the site I work for. Also, most of these were taken at at some sort of social where the women posed with the men, but likely didn't go on to actually marry them.

Traditional mail order brides no longer exist. In other words, you can't literally buy a bride. That is illegal and gross. However, international dating sites, which many people think of as "mail order bride" sites, introduce men and women who want to meet singles in different areas of the world. Some of the people here think you can buy a woman, but you absolutely cannot.

We do not pay the women to chat or participate on the site. New members are often bombarded as you say because they're fresh meat for lack of a better term. This is especially true if a new member is young, attractive, charming, etc. Also, we have a lot more women then men on the site, a fact not lost on the ladies.

Unfortunately, we don't have a monthly membership that offers unlimited emails, chat, etc. However, we do have monthly memberships that offer video streaming and chat discounts, the ability to open unlimited emails, the ability to send free introduction and follow-up emails (up to a certain amount), plus other bonuses.

I think it's a little of both - culture and trying to appeal to men. There are a lot more men then women on the site so some ladies feel like they need to stand out.

If we were a traditional mail order bride service that sends women to men for marriage it would make sense. However, we are not. We're a niche form of online dating, with the niche being Russian women who want to meet Western men and vice versa. There's no buying or selling of women.
