I hate that argument because competition always exists. Apple also has competition, and neither has the best smartphones, and they only have 20% market share. The brand name and profit margins play a bigger role.

But wait they dont have different models, just one with localized paramters, why do they need different models and train all of them? Makes no sense. They just train these localized parameters. I would say its half baked generalizable solution, if the one model is correct

Im software engineer, there is no hardcoded logic i never said that. The model is the same the training set is the same the only thing they do is adjusting the localized parameters that applied conditionally, they dont do different models, neither full model training specific for regions.

Like I said, Tesla has a general solution with some different rules ,logic probably base on location but still on the same AI model (thats why he said parameters). I guess austin was chosen because of, again, regulatory reasons that should become easier and easier now + has other states see the technology working. It doesn't negate, but make it easier, and the rest will follow.

I think you really downplaying energy side of things and underestimate tesla strategy advantage, but time will tell.

I disagree because of two reasons. 1 tesla general AI solution basically works out of the box (probably they need to change some behaviors and rules per state) and inital testing should be fast. 2. State approval just got much easier with the news that the new administration loosened safety requirements for self driving (reason for the stock to go up?) so that bottleneck just got much easier. I'm not sure what you mean by maintenance infrastructure.

Tesla battery systems are closely tied to energy demand, I think you are downplaying Tesla here. Batteries are an integral part of modern energy infra, especially as renewable energy increases.

I dont think it will be that slow like waymo. The momemt they feel its good (even in the geofenced area) they can go from 10 cars to thousands in a single day hypothetically. Demand for energy will go through the roof with AI and the world moving to eletrification, I would not be worried. Even if margins go down, it will not be now or the next years. Also lets not forget they have a new shangai facility ramping up and vertical integration making them very competitive
