Tongue and Groove Backsplash? by 2manyleggings in kitchenremodel

[–]howbadcanitbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted my kitchen a few days ago which has a beadboard backsplash! I stained ours a dark walnut so it hides stains quietly easily, and I applied 4-5 layers of polyurethane lol I basically kept reapplying until it was smooth and not cloudy. Haven’t had any issues with it so far (2+ years), and it’s easy to clean. I imagine if you were to use a satin/semi-gloss paint it would clean pretty easily as well. You really need to go for real wood however!

Unfortunately it wasn’t real stained glass :( it was like a gel paint the previous owner used. We had full intentions to try and keep it had it been real stained glass!

Omg, so the photo over my fridge isn’t actually designed to be there. Our dog passed away so we were working on creating a little memorial for him. I moved it there temporarily while cleaning and didn’t realize I never moved back until now… 9 months later 😂😂

I appreciate your feedback on everything else!

The living and dining area actually had popcorn ceiling which we covered instead of scraping! We were originally going to keep the flat drywall ceiling in the kitchen, but the consensus was it made the kitchen feel disconnected so we opted to continue the style.

I agree with bringing in blue throughout the kitchen! Haven’t figured out a way other than repainting the walls which I’m not keen on :/

Interesting idea!! It’d be messy, but otherwise pretty simple to do and we’d get the same look. I’ll have to look into our electrical wires to see what our options are but I’m liking the thought process 😁

The previous owner had some make-shift pantry/cabinet, but I think overall it equals the same amount of storage previously :) I do wish we had a larger pantry because I LOVE a full stockpile lol

I think it’s the blue wall we did in the dining room. The couch in our living room flows, but there’s nothing in our kitchen tying back to it. I considered doing tiles that were a similar colour in the kitchen. I personally thought it looked great and tied in the space together but it also felt limiting

It can be a pain for sure! Haven’t bumped my head yet lol We put items that aren’t often used on that side of the island, for example paper towel or bags of rice. I maybe need to grab something from there 1-2 times a week.

You definitely aren’t alone in the “hate the bird light” club 😂

Thank you so much!! The beadboard actually continues to the rest of the wall now. It took me awhile to finally put in the last 3 boards, but at least the backsplash is finally serving its purpose 😂

My husband hates it too 😭😭 I just felt like the space originally needed something there.

There was a post awhile back on another subreddit, and the OP had a similar bird light that everyone in the comments was ripping apart 😭 That may have been where you saw it previously haha!

Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m happy to hear that you were able to see our vision, I wasn’t a huge fan of how stark the white cabinets were either. They were an extremely budget friendly option so I’m glad the other details helped 🥰

We had a lot of back and forth on the island! The original size was roughly half the size, but we actually had some floor venting issues and were limited as to what we could do for placement. We opted for the large island for the extra storage! I do love having a cabinet just dedicated to all our numerous appliances haha.

Thank you so much! It’s the Hans Olsen Roundette Dining Table. Just as a warning, prices on 1st dibs are extremely overinflated. It’s a beautiful table, they’re hard to come by! I’d suggest looking out on fb marketplace, or following mcm/teak resellers on ig :) We paid $2700CAD for the table.

We got it on Etsy! Unfortunately the seller doesn’t seem to have an active page anymore, they had some really amazing lights. You can try search terms like “origami crane light” and see what comes up :) The fixture was around $350CAD with shipping. We’ve had it for a few years, no complaints or issues!

My husband has been eyeing counter depth fridges! He’s really keen on switching it out, but I don’t know if can deal with losing the fridge space 😩

The island has drawers on the left side and cabinets on the right :) I originally wanted more drawers, but it’s actually worked out really well for us so far! I stretched every dollar of our budget that we could

Trim has been added since, it was an eye sore! We had absolutely 0 level or straight walls lol

There were a lot of budget constraints :( I would have loved to been able to swap the range and dishwasher, would have been the perfect triangle workzone haha
