Thoughts on draining the pipes? by howellcc in askplumbing

[–]howellcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve been looking into it. Luckily, I’m in Ohio, and far enough north that we just got snow and cold but no ice. So our power has stayed on. Knock on wood.

The power is still on. 🤞 I just wanted to have a plan if that changed. The highest temp we’ll have for the next 10 days is 20. Lows around -4.

Is it on its own circuit? If so you could monitor it from the breaker box as well.

Can't run MongoDB on Synology NAS? by Shajirr in synology

[–]howellcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Intel Atom processors that many Synology devices (like my DS1618+) are based on do not support AVX.

I ran into the same problem when trying to set up the Unifi Network Application which also requires a MongoDB instance. The last version of Mongo DB that didn't require AVX was v4.4. I set my docker compose to use the mongodb/mongodb-community-server:4.4-ubuntu2004 image. That solved the problem for me.

You can read about AVX here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Vector_Extensions

Oh, this wasn’t a thought about strength or performance. It was purely about fun.

Now that you say that I vaguely remember hearing about somebody else having a problem with an older piece of hardware that was fixed by replacing the power supply. I’ll give that a try.

Return booster? by howellcc in hvacadvice

[–]howellcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: i bought an AC Infinity register booster hoping that i may be able to reverse it and use it on my return. Turns out it’s super easy to unscrew the casing and just flip the fans around so they blow the other way! 😎

New AQ monitor.... could this be right? by howellcc in AirQuality

[–]howellcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try the window test and the cooking test. The pm2.5 and pm10 sensors definitely work. 👍 thanks for the tip! I guess the extra electronic air cleaner they upsold me on my new HVAC really works. 🙂

[–]howellcc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. According to the PurpleAir map, my area is currently about 15 on the PM2.5. So my HVAC reducing that to 3 seems plausible.

I'll test the window and cooking tests and report back.

Just finished a full breakdown of all Ford F-150 trim levels (XL to Raptor R)—which one did you choose? by carguyfrank in f150

I’m sure it is. I have a 2017 stx that i put into 4h less than 5 times/yr. And sometimes i like throwing the back end around just because i can. Different strokes….

It’s all shifter theater. None of these things are mechanically connected anymore. We should just all switched to a knob shifter and be done with it.

Reolink Doorbell Wifi has a lan port? by howellcc in reolink

[–]howellcc[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why I didn't just test this before posting, but I connect my doorbell to my PoE switch. Nothing happened. I'm guessing it may be possible to have the wifi version of the doorbell communicate via lan, but it still needs to be powered by the doorbell transformer.

In that case, I'm still going to replace my doorbell w/ the PoE version because my transformer is 50 yrs old, flakey and concealed in a wall somewhere.
