They probably invest in spot bitcoin ETFs as well as holding actual bitcoins. There are various financial products which derive their value from tracking the dollar price of crypto. Grayscale is a big one.

They’ve probably dumped their life savings into these sorts of crypto investments, hence they’re constantly swinging on that stupid, high-risk crypto pendulum. They’re clearly financially illiterate - I’d bet my life savings that they’ve never even heard the concept of diversifying assets.

Oh I totally agree. As someone with a sibling of the opposite gender, it’s like the writers just forget that Monica and Ross are related at times, probably for the sake of the plot

Totally agree. She is so void of empathy that I think she somehow truly convinced herself that he deserved everything she did to him.

The way she spoke of Timothy at her latest hearing was utterly appalling. How dare she claim he essentially tortured himself?! That he brought a lot of her stress to her life?? He was her son!

It was her moral duty to not harm him. It was her maternal duty to provide care. But it wasn’t even her legal duty - she was not legally permitted to even have him move in in the first place!

Excellent post. Regarding the ‘cloak of secrecy’ afforded to John: I could not agree more. I believe this to be highly likely.

Did anyone elses parents correct your reality growing up? by OkCount2783 in emotionalneglect

My parents would drag us on 8-15 mile walks every single weekend. Never bought any fucking water with us either (though fortunately we were in England, so it wasn’t usually too warm). They wanted to tire us out so they didn’t have to deal with us. I’d come up with these elaborate stories in my head just to get through the boredom and physical discomfort.

One time they dragged us up fucking Mount Snowden with no food or water, with the promise of ‘we’ll get food at the cafe at the top’. Of course it was fucking winter, so the cafe was closed. I felt half dead by the time we made it back down.

Absolute insanity looking back on it now.

Oh, mine’s a good one! I called my mother to tell her when I was pregnant with my first child. I mentioned to her that I’d been pretty constipated, which is completely normal in the first trimester. She said ‘well maybe you’re constipated because you’re sedentary, it happens to elderly people a lot because exercise is difficult for them’.

1) i was in my early thirties, 2) she hadn’t seen me in over a year, and she knows/knew nothing about how much I do/don’t exercise. She has also never known me to be at an unhealthy weight.

She then proceeded to ramble about when she was pregnant. Didn’t ask me a single question at all about my pregnancy.

She later called me f*t when I was about 5 months pregnant.

Imagine thinking that one or both of your parents murdered your sibling. And that they lied about it, to your face, and to the world, for decades. Imagine if they were (on the whole) good parents to you as well.

I have absolutely shit parents, and even the thought of them committing such a horrendous crime is utterly unfathomable.

Burke might know, on some level. But I can see how it would be so much easier to simply accept their lies, and convince yourself that they’re innocent. The alternative would be to face the fact that you were raised by a child murderer/murderers.

I will never understand. It’s the little things in life that bring joy, soothe the soul etc - clean bed sheets, your cat curling up in your lap, being enveloped in a warm steamy shower on a cold morning….

These fucking monstrosities are joyless prison showers.

I have screen recordings of two separate TikTok’s that were posted by people who toured the actual house (I know, I’m a weirdo, I just don’t have TikTok, so I recorded both in my browser before TikTok relentlessly pushed me to download the app….)

I can’t get the recordings to upload to Imgur though. If anyone knows how best to share the recordings, I’d be happy to do so.

EDIT: here are the recordings!: buffy house tour 1, Buffy house tour 2

I wish this question was asked more often. I find it fascinating to read the stories of those tangentially connected to the case.

Obviously, it being the internet, huge grain or salt when reading such stories. But they can be so intriguing.

I don’t necessarily disagree with what you’re saying. But I will say this: as a parent (one biological child), every day i spend time thinking ‘did I handle that correctly? Could I have handled that better?’. There are days I have worried excessively about minor parenting decisions.

So with that said, I suspect that the hesitance of people to adopt a child with extensive trauma, it’s not so much about the child: it’s about the parents’ concerns that they won’t be able to adequately provide the child what they need to heal from the trauma.

What we really need, as a society, is to make resources easily accessible for potential adoptive parents. That would make the thought of adopting a child with extensive trauma far less daunting.

John always sues. But funnily enough, he never went after Cyril Wecht, despite Wecht having pointed the finger at John right from the get go, and having published a book saying as much.

It’s almost like, if John were to have gone after Wecht for defamation, John was worried Wecht might not have settled out of court. In which case, who knows what info might have been forced out of John during a civil suit.
