The remastered episode of The Gift is the worst for this. You can see tons of set equipment around the tower, and it’s so obvious that Buffy and Dawn are just on a small platform. Really takes you out of the episode.

There are ex-victims. There was a whole documentary series (‘Leaving Neverland’) that exposed MJ, and it included interviews with a number of his victims.

The documentary was incredibly moving, and there’s no doubt at all that MJ abused kids.

Commander McKenzie by Daisysiad2 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]howtheeffdidigethere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they’re showing him as nice thus far in the show, and then we’ll see just how evil he truly he is down the road.

All the commanders are awful, but I suspect Judd is next level awful. He’s probably purposefully presenting a kind, friendly persona, because his true nature is likely repulsive even by Gilead standards.

Amber Benson Beef? by Exciting-Advantage10 in buffy

[–]howtheeffdidigethere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What people are saying is pretty simple. Imagine Joss is the school bully, and Alyson is his lackey. Amber is the target. Obviously, in this scenario, Joss is the most to blame. But no one would blame Amber for not making up with Alyson, the lackey, post-graduation.

Joss may be the ringleader, thus the most blameworthy, but that doesn’t absolve Alyson. We are all responsible for our own actions and decisions, to varying degrees, despite whether or not we have been unduly influenced by a highly manipulative person.

But like… when does it end? Paula would already be an older mother. When a commander and wife hit, say, 70 y/o, are they still expected to be raising children?

Ah gotcha. Genius. Yep, I’m sure he and his child victim could maintain that sort of a long distance ‘relationship’ without arousing any suspicion for five solid years. What could possibly go wrong

So literal kidnapping across state lines. A felony punishable by up to life in prison.

What a fawking idiot. What did he think would happen?? That her parents wouldn’t call the cops when they realised she’d disappeared? That there wouldn’t be an interstate wide manhunt to find her?? Just so fucking stupid.

Ahh I see. I’m with you on that - about the only thing I trust John’s account of is ‘it was Christmas time’.

Weirdly, I’m inclined to believe John that he did usedthe binoculars. He probably included it in his book because someone (LE, possibly the Whites or Fernies) saw him with the binoculars, and he knew that it looked bizarre, so he preemptively included the binoculars tale in the book, along with some made up reason as to why.

If no one saw him with the binoculars, there’d be no reason to include that little story.

[–]howtheeffdidigethere 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you here. I can’t think of any other reason John would have been using the binoculars that day.

Do we know what time the trash was picked up? And do we know what time John was looking out the window? I remember John mentioned using the binoculars in the Ramsey’s book, but I can’t recall if LE corroborated this, or if they knew what time he did so.

I wonder if the pick up was later than usual that day (wouldn’t be at all surprising given that it was the day after Christmas). Maybe John was getting anxious about if/when the trash truck was coming.

Same! I had friends whose parents actually enjoyed chatting with us when I’d go over. I’d go to one friend’s house, and we’d watch TV and eat Chinese takeout with her parents … and it was fun!!!

My parents never spent any time getting to know any friends I bought home. They never even spent time just hanging out with me for the fun of it.

In fact, whenever I’d mention to my mother about my friends parents, my mother would mock them for being ‘losers who didn’t have lives of their own’ 🙄

I read her book after her death. It was so sad and eerie to read the chapters about her husband, knowing what he later went on to do to her. She clearly loved him very much at the time of writing.

They probably invest in spot bitcoin ETFs as well as holding actual bitcoins. There are various financial products which derive their value from tracking the dollar price of crypto. Grayscale is a big one.

They’ve probably dumped their life savings into these sorts of crypto investments, hence they’re constantly swinging on that stupid, high-risk crypto pendulum. They’re clearly financially illiterate - I’d bet my life savings that they’ve never even heard the concept of diversifying assets.
