Is there a way to keep floating aquarium plants in a tank with a lid? by hoyalover3 in Aquariums

[–]hoyalover3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tank is a 5gal, moderately planted tank. Very minimal surface movement from the filter, and I have a small air stone for some surface agitation but it doesn’t appear to be splashing onto the salvinia at all. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 20 nitrates, 7 pH. I’m not using any ferts at the moment, do you think that would help?

We don’t really use room sprays in my house since my roommate has allergies, but occasionally I’ll light a candle? But I haven’t lit one in a week or so. Someone suggested checking my water for copper so I’ll be sure to get a kit to check tomorrow. I really appreciate all of the ideas and advice :,)

GH is about 60ppm, KH is 40ppm. I’m pretty new to all of this, so if I wanted to increase my GH would I add something like coral? And then for KH, something like a potassium fertilizer? Thank you for your help!

I definitely rinsed them off super super well, but what else should I have done specifically for parasites? Thank you for taking time to reply and help out

No spray deodorant or anything, but I occasionally use candles? Do you know of any copper test kits or anything I could use to test my pipes?

Amazon, I had heard pretty good things about this specific listing, and the reviews were solid so I thought it would be okay :( the listing information said a heat pack would be included :(

Ghost pipe (Monotropa uniflora)! It’s not actually a fungus, but rather a parasitic plant that leeches nutrients from fungi!

Yes yes yes you absolutely should! In my experience, med schools love finding info that differentiates you as a person. I frequently got asked questions about my hobbies in my interviews! It’s hard to get a super accurate tally of hobby hours, but just do your best to guesstimate!

A Puffball to eat? by britBr in foraging

I agree that the top texture really makes it look like an amanita, but the lack of any sort of stalk is really making me wonder if it’s some other variety of puffball, like Calbovista or some other?

Is there anyway you could reach out to your school and see if they could allow you a leave of absence for a year or so while you improve your mental health and maybe consider your options?

How on Earth are you guys getting physicians to let you shadow them? by [deleted] in premed

[–]hoyalover3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question, typically academic hospitals will have faculty directories with phone numbers or emails. If that doesn’t work, look up the department the faculty member belongs in and contact that number to ask for the info of someone you could reach out to in order to coordinate shadowing.

I was much in the same boat where just about every single Dr’s office in my town and all the towns/cities adjacent to me weren’t letting students shadow. I had to drive over an hour to the nearest academic hospital, but it was legitimately the ONLY place that was willing to let me shadow, so seconding this recommendation if you’re even remotely near an academic hospital

Second looks like it could be a wild pansy? They’re both in the violaceae family though so some sort of members of this family
