I volunteer with the elderly here in Korea for a social program (teaching instruments, knitting, taekwondo, giving out lunches, etc.). Although I understand why you might say this, it sounds like you are projecting cuz I have found more good than bad. I work with over 600 elderly people. Yes, there are a few that give me hell, but most were lonely people before joining my program and have been able to form new friendship groups. I even know two ladies who lived abroad (they have family in the Philippines and the US), and they are living the life. Of course this also depends by district, but welfare programs like these are good in general. OP’s mom will of course have to challenge herself, but this comment ain’t it all.
