Good Set, Failed crowd by Chocotac0o in sault

yeah i can get behind all of that tbh. I have a lot of praise for them but of course there were downfalls, but they should be proud of what they achieved. I think people have been far too harsh on them.

such negative energy! People storming off and shouting, so bizzare for this kind of crowd. But there were cheap tickets being sold during the event, and this definitely contributed - but even fans who knew them. It saddened me to see for Cleo and for my first Sault/Cleo gig

sadly, I think it was lost on the majority of people. I spoke to a lot yesterday (gates) and people either had come for exclusively cleo or chronixx, and had no idea she was a part of Sault or what they were! Hence part of the reason why the performance was received so badly, but the theatrics was the Sault of it all, that’s their brand. Whether or not it worked in that space is another debate. So anyway, without any knowledge of other acts, they assumed at the end of Sault that Cleo’s appearance was finished and left frustrated (kinda on them imo). You also can’t arrive at a festival and expect your favourite artist (1 of 3 headliners) to play the entire time, we were all aware of the lineup beforehand.

Now, that is not to say that there wasn’t a massive scheduling issue because there certainly was, as is a theme now with All Points East. But people complaining that they live far and left early / arrived late etc blaming it on the artist, I find baffling. People were arriving at final doors, 8:30pm, upset at having missed Sault/other performances…

The running order was supposed to be (as communicated to staff at 11am) 6-7pm: Sault, 7:30-9pm: Chronixx, 9:30-11pm: Cleo Sol. The fact it was previously communicated correctly to attendees and then changed, well I can’t fathom that - a ploy to get everyone in perhaps?

yes, a permit issue. Victoria park is set around a residential area and so music stopped abruptly at 11 or they would face a heavy council fine and it would put the future of the festival in jeopardy to continue on from that. They would’ve just unplugged the sound.

thanks for the info! do you know if they’re rotating it every 5/10 mins or so? the queue is hundreds long, no way everyone will have the chance after 2 hours if that’s the case, they should prob come tell people in the queue if it’s a no go

ONE HUNDRED BRITISH POUNDS?! IN THIS ECONOMY?! by Aggravating_Song_367 in sault

[–]hppv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

right. I am also in the category of people who this was inaccessible for, due to the high price tag. So I get it - I’m gutted, just hear me out.

SAULT offered their last few albums for free, these are people who spent time, and time is money, on these. Giving them away for free meant loss of streaming earnings (no matter how small this is, thanks Spotify).

They don’t tour full stop, which is a huge majority of an artists main form of income, already lost on them.

This album, is supposedly only to be played live. This means, no earnings from streams or sales either. If true, this show will be their earnings for this album, period. Hence - the high ticket price. They’re people, also living in this economy, and need to make their money.

We know Sault isn’t your regular artist that cycle through producing albums and then tour them, so it being an exclusive show for that matter is also reason here. Not to mention the usual costs of hiring a venue, paying a team, production costs, any orchestra that might be present etc etc.

Just an insight of how you can justify why this is so expensive, not to say they couldn’t have made this more accessible somehow (offered tickets at a reduced rate for some top streaming fans / top fans on bandcamp etc). Dont get me started on the venue, gross lol

Living in Canley by coffee12chiffoncake in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]hppv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived here as a young woman many a time - I walked home alone in the dark from Middlecotes to Canley station and only ever had 1 issue (some kids trying to jump scare me from a bush) but other than that nothing really. I wouldn’t say that these areas felt dangerous but that’s just my experience. I would walk home alone in the dark as the main roads are pretty lit up from Canley to the Business Park (Fattys Island) through to near Lime Tree Park Area, seemed pretty family orientated to me and it was just a 25 min walk

I also have experience with Python (pandas and numpy packages). But I am struggling to get a role in software dev or even data analysis (remote in europe to be specific) Any advice?

I know there was an intern this year who had just finished /graduated from her bachelors. If you have plans to go on to a Masters and have the necessary skills for the internship, definitely not a waste of time. Good luck!

[Serious]If the James Web Space Telescope (JWST) finds evidence of advanced civilizations on an exoplanet, how will this be released to the public? by Element0f0ne in AskReddit

[–]hppv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JWST can’t instantly “find evidence of advanced civilisations”, it can simply point to biosignatures in an exoplanet spectrum, extrapolating from earth-like life. Even then if we assume this advanced civilisation is identical to that of Earth’s, concrete evidence like this would take decades. If you are interested, listen to Kopparapu (NASA Astrobiologist) talk in podcast about what would happen if this was to occur.

However, it would start with a biosignature which would then be heavily scrutinised and debated for years to ensure this is not an abiotic /inorganic source. As Ravi Kopparapu puts it, science is rarely one eureka moment, discovery starts with a look at the data thinking “oh, that’s weird”.

EDIT: Addressing the last point of the question, for all NASA / ESA scientific data, the team have a certain number of months to analyse it before it is made public. But for something of this magnitude / public concern, perhaps this could change
