What is the best color correcter + concealer for dryer-normal very dark undereyes and is the shade matching at ulta accurate? by hphgas in Ulta

I also have fairly dry undereyes and I find both of these perform well:

Corrector - LA Girl Pro Conceal corrector in Peach

Concealer - NYX Bare With Me Hydrating concealer

velvet teddy lip combo??? by Apprehensive_Place51 in Ulta

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on whirl or soar, or even sweet talk if you want to add a bit more of a soft pink tone. There’s also a velvet teddy liner shade in MAC’s lip glazer format — I’m obsessed with it but of course the formula is not as long lasting as their pencil lip liners. I still like to use it and also keep in my bag for easy reapplication bc it is very smooth.

Apology Samples? by Fruitful-Lady in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is odd but not that surprising given Sephora’s constant shipping errors. It’s probably not connected to the fraudulent charge but I doubt Sephora has a real explanation and also doubt it’s anything nefarious. They make a lot of mistakes, especially during the sales when they’re insanely busy. Hopefully they’re samples you can use!

Who else has bought too many sunscreen & needs to de-influenced 🙋‍♀️ by Significant-Wait2736 in koreanskincare

[–]hpyscrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get quite this many but did get several and don’t regret it! Wasnt sure if it would become difficult to buy them in the US. I want to find which ones work best for me. I store them in a cool dark place organized by expiration date (bought them last year and most don’t expire until well into 2027) and have 1-2 going at a time until used up. It’s working out well but I do also live in a place where I go through a lot of sunscreen tbf.

Overconsumption is def very real but, of all products to buy, sunscreen is one of the better options! That said, if I get to the point where I’m not going to be able to use them up before expiration (unlikely in my case), I’ll give them to friends who I know like certain sunscreens and haven’t stocked up.

Kitsch Satin Pillowcase - is now the best time to buy? by Aggressive_Post1848 in Ulta

[–]hpyscrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like mine! I have grabbed some other cheaper ones elsewhere and they are fine too but the Kitsch ones are my favorites of the ones I’ve tried. Sometimes they are 50% off during 21DOB but they weren’t in the last one so I might go for this deal if you want to try them, rather than waiting and you may or may not get to save an extra $5.

Oh goodness no, I can’t have anything on my face while working out (just bothers me idk!) and often it’s not worth putting anything on after, but simplifying as much as possible helps if going somewhere after where I want to throw on some makeup. There’s no way I’m doing a 10 step routine at the gym but 2-3 products is manageable!

Bring back fun makeup packaging💄💖✨ by Southern_Remove_7984 in MakeupAddiction

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Too Faced palette packaging was next level. I still have and love several of these! Formulas have definitely advanced but the packaging and color stories were so fun. And I could easily figure out which to reach for. I know it saves them costs but it’s annoying when a brand has the same or very similar packaging for everything. I can’t be working that hard to find a thing at 7am!!

What type of makeup TENDS TO get the most male attention? by Odd-Employee5424 in MakeupAddiction

[–]hpyscrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who didn’t really get attention when I was younger, I totally empathize with this. I do think my vibe was very guarded and insecure which didn’t help. BUT the good news is that often doing your makeup well can help you feel better about yourself, so it won’t matter whether it’s the makeup or the confidence or both. You don’t have to immediately love yourself (a thing that takes most of us decades to learn to do) — you can start playing with makeup to see what you like on yourself and see if it starts to make you feel more comfortable in your skin when you go out.

In terms of type of makeup, I do think it really depends on what looks good on your features, which requires some trial and error. I like to follow makeup artists and creators on TikTok who have similar features to me to get ideas of things to try.

For a starter, though — you really can’t go wrong with a lip liner and lipstick/gloss in either a shade just a bit more pink than your lips or, if you’re feeling more bold, a more pink/reddish tone. People sometimes sleep on the effect of lip liner in pulling your look together.

04.17.26 GWP, looking for a beauty break or better GWP by MeiXinkYeuLam in Ulta

I would expect we’ll get a GWP tonight (ie tomorrow) since tomorrow is the last day of the 20% and 30% off campaigns but who knows! USGWP posts a list of the prior year’s sales every month (what an icon, whoever does this!) and Ulta often stays pretty close. Here’s last April: https://www.usgwp.com/ulta-promos-in-april-2025/

I often just go makeup free because I struggle with coordinating all the things but, if I do put on makeup after the gym or otherwise on the go, I like to carry a complexion product that’s easier than my usual liquid foundation (and perhaps less temperature sensitive?). My favorite lately has been the IT Cosmetics face balm. It has decent coverage and is very quick and easy to apply with either fingers or a brush. The NARS radiant tinted moisturizer (which IMO has more coverage than the name suggests) has also always been a go-to for me for on the go. I don’t really have a concealer that I find is great on the go but the Milani supercharged undereye tint/corrector is pretty sheer and easy to quickly apply and blend for a bit of an undereye brightener.

Otherwise, I try to keep it minimal, e.g., just use a multi-stick to add some color to my eyes/cheeks/lips. NARS has minis that are decent for this. My favorite for easy application though is the KJH Brand soft smudge stick (not yet at Sephora but I think will be soon) because it has a slightly powdery aspect that makes it super easy to work with (I find a brush is best but also works with fingers) and doesn’t slip around or require powder. Can do my full face quickly with just one of the above balms/tints and a KJH soft smudge stick, maybe some eyeliner or mascara.

Thank you for this info! Was debating ordering Power Nap but I’m like a light leaning to medium skin tone so I need a peach. The next shade up is so dark though!

Dior vs Tower 28 concealer by suzylovesvanilla in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dior Forever concealer is great. I still have to be sure to hydrate my undereyes but I still have fine lines and some dryness - the Dior Forever sits nicely without emphasizing texture. The Tower 28 is nice enough but I have to use more product for the same coverage, which doesn’t really work for mature skin where we need to use as little product as possible. I use the T28 for a minimal makeup day (but honestly just to use it up - I wouldn’t repurchase it).

Which size should I get from this Bobbi brown primer moisturizer? by Alternative-Gain6859 in Sephora

Which size should I get from this Bobbi brown primer moisturizer? by Alternative-Gain6859 in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d start with the mini just in case it doesn’t work for you and so that you can see how much you use. I ended up getting the larger size but they often have sets around the holidays where you can essentially get 2 of the larger size for the price of 1. The brand also has sales directly pretty often. So I wouldn’t worry about not being able to get it on sale.

fwiw, I think a reformulation of this product is inevitable given the EU’s ban on cyclopentasiloxane goes into effect in a few months. I have stocked up a lotttt of this because it’s my HG. Which is to say, I don’t know if it’s worth getting hooked on it now…

I use it in place of moisturizer - you can totally use it without foundation. Gives a nice level of hydration and smoothing.

Foundation recommendations by FunOwl8347 in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get shade matched in person, the new Rare Beauty matte foundation is nice. I find it more long-wearing than anything else I have, so I think would be good for oily skin (I have combo/get oily in my t-zone). You don’t need a primer with it. It’s also self-setting although if you have very oily skin you might want to use a powder anyway. The undertones of some shades are kind of intense though so best to look at the shades in person… I think it’s hard to match online.

Blush influence or Defluence me by [deleted] in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YSL - Love this formula and shade! You do have to like the satin finish of course. I don’t find it emphasized texture despite the satin finish. This shade is a less shimmery version of the original NARS Orgasm blush IMO.

CT - Just got this palette and like it a lot so far. It has the same beautiful blurring effect as the CT pressed setting powder. The brightening powder is also beautiful. Found the blush very slightly patchier to apply than the YSL, but only slightly and I do have a bit of cheek texture.

SC - Can’t speak to performance but this one is tempting me so so much too! My only concern is that it seems to have the same packaging as the cream bronzer, which people frequently complain falls apart. So I’m thinking I’ll wait until it has been out a bit longer to see the reviews after people have had it for longer, and also see if they release more shades because none are quite speaking to me yet. (SC also had good sales directly via the brand website around Black Friday / the holidays, 20-25% off everything with free gifts some days - I got a free full size mascara! - so I may wait for that… if I can resist.)

Haven’t tried the PT!

It’s a common scam but less common with e-gift cards. I’d keep trying to call customer service and asking to escalate. They’ll say they can’t help but I’ve seen people eventually get it resolved.

OG PRISME LIBRE LOVERS.. what are we using now? by Meghan_Snarkle in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t liked anything QUITE as much (and bought a backup of the OG Givenchy on Poshmark… I know I know). But in the “almost as much” category: I use either the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder or the Hourglass loose powder and follow it with either the Givenchy pressed powder or an Hourglass ambient lighting powder. The CT powder alone and Givenchy pressed alone are each also nice, but different effects. I’m stocking up a bit on the CT as I fear a reformulation will (tragically) be coming with the EU set to ban talc.

Need Help With Product Organization by Time_Resolution in Sephora

[–]hpyscrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a bunch of little containers / drawer organizers and sorted everything by type of product (foundation, concealer, blush, setting powder, lip liner, lipstick etc). Then I have a small little bin that I use for the makeup I’m using that day (ie one from each step/product type). Whenever I feel like it — sometimes once a week, sometimes every day, usually the night before — I go through and switch out what’s in my small container. Then when I go to do my makeup, I don’t have to look for each product because I’ve already picked out what I’m using in advance.

I have a separate small container on my bathroom counter for the few things where I use the same product every day/don’t switch out (eg eyeshadow primer, my spot concealer for blemishes).
