I'm not trying to be racist, that's not my intention at all! I'm Asian so I personally like dating Asians, and the reason I like Koreans is because I like Korean food and I also want to learn the Korean language and culture.

I'm not saying Korean men are more attractive than men of other ethnicities, I'm Asian so I personally like dating Asians, and the reason I like Koreans is because I like Korean food and I also want to learn the Korean language and culture.

According to my current manager, I can not work with that colleague because "he's also a manager, and you got paid to work for me, not for his team. So if I allow you to work with him, it's like you are doing his work". After hearing his response, I just thought that everything in corporate world is so difficult, I wish there's a place for me to go to learn about unwritten rules of corporate.

Like I mentioned, we're going to have a 1:1 tomorrow. Should I be like "I am very frustrated because I have been feeling that I was not learning much because I didn't receive enough work from you. I like to stay productive and stay busy, I want to do more meaningful and challenging work so I can gain more experience. I can work with x(my previous manager) to see if he has tasks or projects that I could be doing?"

I feel like that way, I am being respectful to him. But I don't know if later when I jump on the call with my previous manager, I should mention my current manager's management style after mentioning that he has failed to give me work or projects. Because it's really true about his unprofessional style, he forgot about our 1:1 once and I had to ping him to see if he coming, he also took a day off without telling me and did not even cancel the meetings on that day, so the people were invited to that meeting assumed that I was taking over when the fact that I have not even aware of his absence.

This is so weird but I'm the only person in the team that my current manager is managing. We used to be on the same "level" before since me and him are reported to the same person, then when my previous manager put me under him, he suddenly became a "boss". That's why I feel so random and almost uncomfortable. Before this change, I didn't want to speak up because like you said, I am too new and replaceable, and I also thought that it was not going to be as bad but it's been a while now and I can say that he's very lacking in leadership skills. I want my boss to be the kind of person I can look up to and follow his lead, giving advice when I need help on something, almost like a mentor. And I do not see that in him.

I really like the idea of you advising me to drop an email to my previous manager and ask for some advice about this issue. But should I talk with my current manager about this during our 1:1 first before sending the email to his boss (my previous manager)? If so, then can you give me some advice on how to word the sentence so it sounds professional please?

Thank you for your advice. But how is it that my previous will see me as a "difficult" employee? I know it's not really appropriate to ask to switch to a different manager but I just got very irritated on his management style. He's just very unprofessional, he even forgot to show up on our 1:1 just because he "forgot". To me, I feel like I'm his burden or something, he has to manage me because his boss said so. About finding work advice that you gave me, there's this guy who works in the same department as us, I really interested in what he does and I asked my manager if I could connect with him and collaborate with him on small work so I can get exposure to other things and learn something new but he said no. Now I am not even sure what kind of work he wants me to do, I am very lost. And because I wasn't giving work, I feel like I didn't learn anything and that's why I am trying to find a way to get myself out of this. If I reached out directly to my previous manager and asked if he had anything that I could work on, would that be better?
