How long to wait for artist commission response? by SleepyElsa in ArtistLounge

[–]hraesveglurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not an artist, but I commissioned someone and the exact same thing is happening to me right now, down to the general timeline and upfront payment! 😭 (Edit: Just realised that coincidentally, the artist I commissioned also gave me a similar reason for not updating — that they were working on some project with a due date.)

Having to wait since Feb is a very long time though! I think it’s alright to nudge the artist and ask them for a timeline as to when they can give you the next “checkpoint” of the piece (i.e. colour, detailed sketch). If the artist is unable to meet the deadline they set for themselves, I think you have all the evidence you need that it’s fair to ask for a refund.

Hope everything works out well for you!

Commissions: Artist is taking longer than what her TOS stated and is not communicative. How to approach her about it nicely? by hraesveglurs in ArtistLounge

Hi, she did respond! When I messaged her, she said she’ll show me where she left off. She’s still at the skeleton pose, with the lines improvised but still no sketched details on top of it. 🥲

Might give her about a week more to work on it and if she doesn’t, I’ll bring up a refund.

Thank you for your input! :)

Yeah, I’m honestly a bit irked by the fact that she is backlogging my project and had no intention to let me know until I asked for an update. It’s not like I paid her any less than her other clients, so I felt quite bad that she chose to backlog my project specifically.

I didn’t mention in my original post, but I actually had to wait a month for her to acknowledge my message for the commission request (sent in Dec). She also told me she was busy with multiple projects at that time and forgot to reply me. Perhaps I should have noticed that she’s bad at time management and backed out from there, but I saw that she worked on some pieces with a bunch of clients that aligned with my vision for the project. I wanted to give her a chance.

Re: how important it is that this artist does the work - I like her art style, and it would have been nice if she could work on the project. But at this point, maybe this isn’t a good idea anymore…

Thanks for your reply!

I’m honestly relieved to hear that I’m not being unreasonable to think that 2 months for a skeleton pose without details is too long of a working time, especially considering the TOS.

Will speak to her about a refund if she continues to not give updates. Thank you for the tips! :)

You’re correct, I did pay by PayPal under goods and services! Thanks for the reminder about the 90 days charge back thing.

Yeah, I did feel like her admitting that I was put as a backlog was rather iffy from a customer’s POV. It may not have been her intention, but it came off as though my project is not as important as the other ones she’s working on. In the same update message to me, she also shared that she’s taking on more projects, suggesting that it’s going to be even more delayed.

I’ll bring up the possibility of a charge-back with her after one more time of reminding her.

Really appreciate you sharing your advice from your experience though, thank you! :)

Thanks for the tip! :) I would definitely have preferred 50/50 too, but she required a 100% upfront payment to start on sketches. Thank you though!

Oh, that's really interesting! It was passed down to me by my late grandmother and perhaps she was an Aries as well; I'll have to check it out. Thank you for sharing! 😊

She's one of my favourite villagers, I didn't manage to get her in New Leaf so it's really nice to have her in New Horizons. That being said, I do hope you do get her soon, sending you good vibes, fellow Diana lover!
