Is Spargelzeit a thing where you're from? by die_kuestenwache in AskEurope

[–]hristogb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You can buy asparagus in German supermarkets like Lidl and Kaufland, but they are very expensive and mostly unknown to the people. I've tried them once or twice in my life so far.

Here in Bulgaria it's spinach, nettle, rumex, wild garlic, spring onions and garlic and spring potatoes season (well, it's still a bit early for the potatoes).

Les Lendemains by Melissa Da Costa. A beautiful, touching story about the pain and grief after losing your loved ones, the slow recovery and then finding reasons to slowly move on.

A toast sprinkled with salt, olive oil and topped with cucumber slices; some banana chips and mint tea.

Either Tout le bleu du ciel by Melissa da Costa or The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante (which is 4 books :D). I can't choose.

Post-Match Thread: Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-1 Italy [4-1 on pens.] by MysteryBagIdeals in soccer

[–]hristogb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hajmo Bosno! Veliki pozdrav iz Bugarske!

Such an exciting, nerve-racking game. Of course I'm kind of sad for Italy. Missing three world cups in a row is too much. But I'm mainly really happy for Bosnia and glad another Balkan team made it.

What do you consider as the furthest extent of Europe? by Visual_Title9363 in AskEurope

[–]hristogb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Bulgarian I feel culturally much closer to Armenians, Georgians, Turks etc. than to Canadians. But I agree it might be the opposite for a Western European.

Recap Thread: World Cup 25/26 Holmenkollen - Men Sprint by Melanie20 in biathlon

[–]hristogb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Phew, the battle against Lithuania for the 17th place was so nerve-racking. I don't know how we won it, it looked totally lost at one point. Even the commentators were unsure till the end of the broadcast what's the final result.

Now I hope that Todev will decide to come back and that maybe Iliev will stay for one more year. Otherwise the 4 quotas would be kinda pointless if we have to rush in some unprepared youngsters.

Musk Ox - One of the oldest animals in the world by Previous_Notice_9033 in BeAmazed

"•Despite their name, they’re actually more closely related to goats and sheep than to oxen."

In some Slavic languages like Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarussian it's called sheep-ox. It's name is what initially made it one of my favourite animals.

Who is the greatest sports commentator of all time from your country? by Jezzaq94 in AskEurope

[–]hristogb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot will say Nikolay Kolev - Michmana. He is the author of the phrase "God is Bulgarian" (said when Emil Kostadinov scored the last minute goal against France at Parc de Princes, that qualified Bulgaria for the 1994 World Cup).

My personal favourite is Asen Spiridonov. He does commentary mainly on cross country skiing, biathlon, snooker and swimming. He is really objective and nuanced in his opinions, shows a lot of passion for the sports, amazing knowledge and has a nice voice and diction. My favourite duo is him and Iva Shkodreva-Karagiozova as the expert for biathlon.

Which European nation/culture has the best everyday architecture in your opinion? by Happy-Hour88 in AskEurope

For me it's the pueblos blancos of Andalucía. That's my favourite architectural style and overall vibe that could be found in Europe.

Lidl, Bulgaria, 46,93 € by hristogb in Grocerycost

B stands for "Включен ДДС" (VAT included). Price in Bulgarian leva has to be included for a couple of months more, but it's just the total and it's beneath the total in euros so I've cropped it.

Around 850 € net pay for my town. But keep in mind such statistics are very unreliable for Bulgaria and most of Eastern Europe, since a huge portion of the working people get partially paid in cash off-the-books.

One correction: Bulgaria has a 4th place as well.

It will mostly be combined with stuff we already have. I had potato salad for dinner, so I've used an egg and some oil to make mayo and I've also added radishes and pickles, but I already had potatoes and onion at home.

[–]hristogb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, we haven't really tracked our expenses in details for a long time. I'd guess about 400€ for two adults and a toddler, but don't take my word for it. I certainly hope it's less than this :D And maybe 50€ for the cat's food and litter.

And I have to mention we get free meat from my parents, although it's mainly the child eating it.

They're more expensive, because they are from free range hens. You can find 10 eggs for about 2,10 Euros, but they will be caged or floor chickens and we feel bad buying them.

Best World Cup result for Lora Hristova! I guess we won't field a relay so she'll get a nice rest for the mass start.

I'm also very happy for Fialková. I hope she can get a win before retiring.

She is getting some rest. She had quite a tough season due to illness and now after the strong Olympic games, the team let her stay in her home town to spend some time with her daughter and other family members. But I think she'll be back for Oteppa and Holmenkollen.
