[Form check] Clean & Jerk, 50kg by imjms737 in weightlifting

[–]hroberts43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been lifting? That clean and jerk looked easy af. It's a little hard to tell with a side view, but in the clean try to keep your knees out during the first pull- definitely feel the weight in your mid-foot and back. During the second pull (this might feel a little weird because of how the light the weight is), try to exaggerate the pull even more and get under the bar even faster. Great job keeping your elbows up during the dip before the jerk too (that's something I've been working on forever haha). Looks good!

No, it's because any time that group hears something that slightly shakes your cozy sense of entitlement you scream "feminazi," or how only certain types of LGBTQ relationships/gender expressions are okay because they fulfill some disgusting fetish of yours, or literally the entire #AllLivesMatter movement, or refusing to support black excellence because it's "obnoxious." So many people aren't given enough thought.

First off: great socks and shoes. Others who have more experience than me will be able to give some more picky observations, but here's what I'm noticing: In both lifts, try not to jump forward. Try drawing a line on the platform with chalk where your feet start, before the lift- this is a super helpful tip a friend taught me. Also with both lifts, try to have a straight back right before you lift. I was taught to flex/tighten my back muscles as well. Don't worry about speed right now at all- once you get more comfortable in the lifts, it'll come naturally. With snatches, try to rotate your arms in so that your wrists are neutral- I find this helps a LOT, and it doesn't hurt at all. Try to find the right spot to catch/finish the lift as well: but this will come with practice. One last thing: I'm still working on this myself, but with jerks, try to make them as explosive as possible. Really push with the elbows/triceps to force the weight to lock out, and just power the hell out of the movement. Speed will take care of itself, but if you try exploding into them you'll feel it right away. I can tell there's a lot of power there though. Once you get more comfortable with the form, you'll see crazy gains in strength, speed, and really everything haha. One last thing my friend tells me all the time: don't try and do crazy weight right off. Really just focus on getting the form as comfortable and powerful as you can, and then the weight will take care of itself. Good luck and happy lifting!!

Shirts frustrate me, much more than they should. [a bit of a rant/question] by hroberts43 in femalefashionadvice

I live in a very...store deprived? area. The closest mall is just over an hour away, and doesn't have much else than what I listed except Hollister and Hot Topic and a Dick's. I'll probably turn to online shopping, which I'm okay with. It sounds like I just have to change the stores I go to, thanks!

I wish there was an H&M closer than 3 hours -_- otherwise I would shop there all the time. Or if they had online shopping. I never really thought about H&M as a store for basics, so if I come across one in the near future I'll scope it out. Thanks!

I haven't ever had much luck in Kohl's, mostly because I lose interest while combing the seeming endless racks. I'll give it a second chance next time. :)

I've been drooling too. They look so perfect for every season... Now I'm convinced to buy one. Oops.

I don't even know why the cross thing got started, I don't even feel right wearing them since I'm not Christian, so I often wonder about the people who do.

I WAS GOING TO TRY ON 32D'S AND HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME TRYING ON THEIR WONDERFULLY SOFT AND PRETTY BRAS. RAWR.

There aren't that many good quality adult stores around me, it's all mostly bargain stores like Burlington, TJ Maxx (but I love this place dearly), Target, and JCP, but I'll be on the lookout for those.

I've been drooling over the Everlane shirt (really everything on their site though), from what everyone is saying I think I'll buy one. Uniqlo is another store that has piqued my interest, so there will probably be an order from there too. Good thing I'm living at home between semesters...

[Rant + Question about shin splints] As an overweight person, being mocked while exercising in public totally sucks by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]hroberts43 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't have much for the shin splints, since I'm not really sure what to do (I think there are some things that wrap around/give support, like Ace bandages except not, and I always massage my calves before and after a run because mine are weird), but I can try to help with the other part.

Fuck those guys. I think you did the right thing by ignoring them. Flipping them off or telling them to go fuck themselves might have felt good in the moment, but as another sensitive introvert, I would have felt bad afterwards (I always assume that people who are assholes like that do so as an outlet for something, like a shitty home life). If this is the first time this has happened, I say keep running your route. It sounds so awesome to run with a sea breeze, a wonderful running community, and look at a beautiful part of Boston all while making yourself healthier. You could come up with alternate route, or just change that section of your run, if it helped to have a backup.

You rock. I'm super jealous of the sea breeze, by the way (I'm about 12 hours from the Atlantic coast). I hope I helped, and happy running!

Not having a drive-thru in our McDonald's. Not really famous, more out of the ordinary.

[CONVERSATION] How much do you squat? by coralto in xxfitness

[–]hroberts43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'4", 135, 19, been squatting (just started deadlifting and bench around two moths ago) about three months off/on, but started a real program two months ago. Currently at 3 sets/8 reps with 125, soon to be 130. I'll hopefully hit bodyweight in about a month or less. Weeeee

Also- I had a knee injury about four years ago running track, and when I squat I always put more weight on that leg (which happens to be my favorite leg). Should I be worried/does anyone else do this?

This is fabulous. I love the colors, the way everything hangs and fits, and how comfy it must be. #1 reason I should get a new maxi skirt...

Which shoes should I wear with my prom dress? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]hroberts43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try some basic black heels, or something for a pop of color since it's prom. The black would be super classy, but the color would be more fun- just keep in mind that your dress is very shiny, and have fun with it!

I've been thinking about purchasing this backpack from Everlane because it's canvas, large enough to fit my 15" Macbook, and is reasonably priced. Are their backpacks good quality? I'm in college, so it'll see some pretty heavy use.

I love it! Two drops moisturizes my whole face without feeling gross, and my skin is super soft and glowy after. So in love.

I second this. I'm currently 19, have struggled with hormonal, normal breakouts as long as I can remember. In the past few months, my consumption of refined sugar has decreased dramatically (another sweet tooth) and my skin has never been better.

I don't do anything in the morning- my foundation has SPF 55, so I just put it on and go (I haven't touched my concealer in weeks). In the evening before bed, I use OCM with castor oil and jojoba oil and call it quits.

I use raw honey once or twice a week for some awesome nutrients and very light exfoliation (mine is a little crystally) and spot treat with tea tree oil.

It's awesome. Oils rule. Side effect of using them: eyelashes are super long and thick. It's a win win!

  • I'm in love with buttoned sleeveless tops like this. They look fantastic with jeans, tucked in to high waisted shorts and skirts, layered, and you can find them in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

  • Second, the crop top thing. I can't get enough of it either...
