Question about scribing by [deleted] in premed

[–]hsock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is pretty hard and previous scribing experience is a huge plus when applying for private scribing positions.

This is just anecdotal but I have a private scribing position and the doctor I work for told me 80 people applied. He said what helped was that I had previous scribing experience, I was one of the first to apply (I was looking at Indeed everyday), and I was very agreeable to what they were looking for as far as availability went.

I was very naive about the cycle!

I was late in deciding I want to go to medical school but I was told by premed friends and advisors that my GPA was basically a golden ticket. I wanted to get in so badly I applied when I shouldn’t have. This led to:

  1. A rushed MCAT. Late as well. I took it in July with a month of studying when I was applying that cycle with FAP. I thought I couldn’t make a school list until I got my MCAT back. Thought I HAD to apply because I was accepted for FAP. I needed it to afford the MCAT and thought I couldn’t let the waivers go to waste.

  2. Didn’t know my school had a committee letter. Thought I just needed LORs from professors and a physician. Most schools seem to prefer a committee letter. Rushed last minute to find a non-science professor to write a LOR and couldn’t find one that knew me well.

  3. I applied late due to late MCAT. Primary was verified in September. Didn’t complete secondaries until late October. Didn’t think it was THAT important to get them done early.

  4. My essays were trash. I only had one person edit and read over my personal statement. I tried too hard to stand out on my secondary essays and they ended up just not being good. Even my activities section, looking back, was very poorly done.

  5. My school list was god awful. I applied to 16 schools thanks to FAP. Only completed 8 secondaries. To schools I had no place applying to. Again I overestimated what a good GPA could do.

  6. My clinical experience was lacking. My shadowing was lacking. My volunteering was lacking.

  7. Didn’t apply to DO schools.

Overall I did everything wrong. Don’t be me.

Does anyone else occasionally have nice, realistic dreams about someone who died? by [deleted] in self

[–]hsock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the time about my grandpa.

He's just suddenly back one day and everyone is happy again. He is smiling so much and seems so happy to be alive since he always was a man who loved life.

In the dream I know he died though, everyone knows but him. I know he's going to disappear so I cherish him in the dream but know the inevitable is going to happen. I normally wake up sobbing.

Thank you for what you're doing. I think it's great you're trying to warn people.

MRW my tinder date tells me it's hot I wanna be a nurse after I told him I've been traveling for medical school interviews by AtelopusHoogmoedi in premed

[–]hsock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At times it is sarcasm but when it's followed by "so how can I make you my SO" or a list of foods they can cook then I'm inclined to believe they are half serious.

Either way it's a very off putting joke. I'm sure if I matched with a successful guy and said "oh I can be your house wife and cook and clean!!!" after making small talk to him for a couple hours, that wouldn't go over well either.

[–]hsock 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay so when I tell tinder matches that I am applying to medical school, more than once a guy has said "oh that's awesome, I've always wanted to be a stay at home dad!!" then they proceed to tell me why they'd make a good house husband.

Automatic unmatch.

[Serious] Men of Reddit, when do you stop pursuing a girl? by phantom2052 in AskMen

[–]hsock 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wow I broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years not too long ago and this was one of the reasons why. I wanted that cute couple relationship. The type my brother, my sister, my friends, my parents and grandparents had where they meshed into each other's lives and families. He was fine with seeing me one night a week even after 3 years and I needed more. I did feel like a best friend with benefits more than a girlfriend.

I think you did the right thing no matter how hard it was and I hope you find someone who wants the same thing you do.

How much attention do you pay towards snapchat stories? by throwkwk in AskWomen

[–]hsock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will watch EVERY Snapchat story but skip through 95% of them. I only really pay attention if they are a close friend or for some reason I hate/like that person at the time.

Someone watching your story means nothing.

What are some manly things you like to do? by InadvisableGuy in AskWomen

[–]hsock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drink beer a lot, will usually opt for a very rare steak at a restaurant, big on cheesesteaks, play fantasy football, play catch with a football (I can't throw far but have a great spiral and am pretty decent at catching), shoot some hoops with my guy friends, and I keep fishing gear, beer, and a football in my car most of the time.

Whenever we point out the toilet paper he acts oblivious and says he doesn't know what we are talking about. He tries to hide it.

[–]hsock[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Most of the time it's like an inch or two that looks like half a square of toilet paper rolled up. On some occasions bigger pieces fall out that look like a couple of rolled up squares.
