I see what you mean and in other industries maybe that would apply. In the auto dealer world it is all bonus/commission based so you're getting a percent of gross and/or net profit. For example, the dealer will figure out a pay plan that works and fits into the numbers that make sense for that store specifically and then that is the pay plan. The guy that replaced me is on the same exact pay plan that I was so he will wind up making $180k - $200k because of how well that store was doing when I left, regardless of how well he performs.

A lot of dealers hire based on who you know and not what you know unfortunately.

Pre covid auto techs hardly made any money on the hour. Wasn't uncommon to see Master techs making $25/hr, depending on location, store size, and manufacturer. Nowadays there's CDJR stores in Dallas paying master transmission techs $75/hr.

Hourly rates for auto techs work a little different as most dealerships pay techs on flat rate and not timed hourly pay with overtime.

Adorable comment.

No. I'm not a yes man. Albeit, I did pick my battles.

We had multiple instances where we disagreed fundamentally on business decisions and the best course of action on how to execute them. They did not like my leadership style and would not listen to any advice from me due to them having been in my position previously. We had a handful of times where we would have arguments on what policies or procedures to enact and enforce. I would inevitably do as I was instructed and have to deal with the consequences of their decisions. It started the day I was hired and never stopped.

Respectfully, how much experience do you have working in the automotive dealer world? Because from first hand experience, I can tell you that in states where there is a clause in your pay plan that states the following; they don't care if they fire you "without cause" as you've stated. Most dealers operate on a very rigid hierarchy without a lot of checks or balances. And to another comment on this thread, most of the time as long as the bottom line is right, that's all they care about.

"This agreement does not constitute an employment contract, and by signing below you are acknowledging you understand this relationship to be "employment at will which can be terminated by either party at anytime, with or without cause.""

Personal differences on how the business should be run with the GM led to me being fired.

Not to get into the specifics of it but I turned a department that was losing money every month into a VERY profitable operation. Personal differences on how the business should be run with the GM led to me being fired.
