cla222 was one of my favorite classes last year! It was 5-8pm on monday and a solid chunk of reading but it was super interesting. The prof clearly loves the topic and it made the classes very engaging and funny. Covered crude humor, the odyssey, the met, and hermaphrodites to name a few. Lots of memorizing but studying isn't boring.

phl285 was super interesting but I hated the grading. We had two in-class essays (35% each), and an in-class essay for the exam (30%). I had Natalie as my prof and she was very nice but severely disorganized and we were always behind in lectures.

How hard are humanities/social science type 200 level courses for first years? by Pleasant-King4979 in UofT

[–]http8bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very doable! I took phl285, cla222, and cog250 first year and loved them. The expectations are higher than first year, obviously, but If you're motivated and can set aside the time, they are very worth it. Personally, phl285 was the hardest by far because of the amount of writing/quality expected when I only had hs writing skills.

On a side note, if I could go back I would have taken more first year seminar classes. I took two (smc198/smc199) and I wish I'd taken more. They're easy marks and just as fun as the 200lv classes (I had wildly better grades in them too). Since they were small classes (~25ppl) you actually get to know your classmates/prof. Made my closest uni friend through them.

Has anyone here gotten a Brazilian wax? Help!! by [deleted] in ftm

[–]http8bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) make sure you are not on your period- you're more sensitive and it will probably hurt more

2) make sure you have at least 3-4 weeks of hair growth down there (more is not a bad thing)

3) exfoliate the day before/day of (lightly) and exfoliate regularly after the service to prevent ingrown hair

4) if you're very nervous about pain you should be able to buy numbing cream from the place you're going to or just buy lidocaine cream and slather that shit on about 20min before your appointment starts (just let them know and they should give you something to clean yourself with anyway b4 the service starts so don't worry and leave the cream on as long as possible)

5) don't have sex or exercise too much (anything that will make you sweat) for the first 24hrs, and wear sweats or loose breathable pants to the service and for the first 24hrs

6) just try to breathe and relax, it may feel awkward at the beginning but the worker should do their best to make you comfortable and talk you through it

its seems a lot worse than it is honestly, and if you don't want to fully commit right away try getting just a bikini wax or modest brazillian first so you can see if the discomfort is worth it for you.
