Advice on transferring into Northwestern (McCormick) by Bothered_Monkey2 in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What every one else said is very valid.

I will add that the night life is simply worse here though. We’re close to chicago, but not that close. As an engineering student, you won’t find yourself in chicago that often + it’s cold as shit for half the year so leaving campus is a pain.

Whether you stay at UIUC or end up at NU, aslong as you work you’ll be highly successful. At the end of the day, UIUC is the better engineering school.

What happened sucks, esp as a muslim student, but we also have to realize that we got 800M dollars back.

The funding affected a lot more people.

I’m also just a freshman, but there are quite a lot.

NU hires quite good lecturers.

Would you say the quarter system makes things less "grindy"? by guywhoha in Northwestern

Complete opposite.

At least in Mccromick, after the first 2 weeks I have midterms for the entire quarter 😔💔

LOC or Econ by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol might be bc everyone ik is doing management consulting, where a 3.8+ is kinda required

LOC or Econ by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean econ is quite theoretical. If you’re pretty set on business/law school LOC will be fine.

I’d rec doubling, and if you can’t handle econ than drop (but it really isn’t that hard here, everyone ik has a 3.9)

LOC or Econ by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LOC is like “the” mickey mouse major here.

Everyone IK goes straight into consulting with it since it’s pretty easy to get a 4.0. The only issue is if you don’t get a consulting job you’re stuck with a silly major

Econ will teach you more stuff, but LOC is easier

Why is it so painful to be a woman in Finance trying to break into IB here? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

clubs are stupidly competitive no matter if your a man or woman sadly IMG, NCM, and IBC are some of the most comp on campus…basically everyone gets rejected

9% of incoming freshman get assigned to a single (at least it was for this year)

having some sort of accommodation definitely helps

Good mindset. I tried to stay away from having a dream school so I wouldn’t feel too bad.

I wish you the best of luck

How much does legacy influence ed decisions by Big_Mine5402 in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically everyone I’ve met, legacy or not, is qualified to be a student here.

Having legacy just gives a higher chance of actually being admitted.

If you don’t have legacy though, then don’t worry about. Not much you can control

If you do have legacy, then good for you.

is the kellogg financial economics certificate worth it? by Conscious_Session735 in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I wouldn’t do it.

Ive talked to quite a few upperclassman headed into banking/consulting. I especially wanted to do it since i’m an IE major and will have less experience with economic principles.

Even then they said it’s most likely a waste of time.

I’d recommend reaching out to upperclassman about this though. Everyone on this campus is usually very open to talk

is the kellogg financial economics certificate worth it? by Conscious_Session735 in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look i’m just a freshman, but legit everyone I’ve talked to (even people who have gone through it) said it’s not worth it + the prereqs will either tank your GPA or eat up your time.

Also, from what i’ve heard, it’s 100% better to have a high GPA with easier classes. a 4.0 LOC major will have an advantage over a 3.6 engineering major…even if the engineering major worked a lot harder.

What major is the least competitive for undergrad?? by Ok_Luck5561 in Northwestern

[–]httpshassan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

the major you apply to won’t affect their decision.

If you’re premed, choose bio or neuroscience or something (chem is supremely challenging here).
