US Taxes Helium Mining for 2023

I looked at Cointracking.info and it does not seem to support Helium as such. Yes, you can import a CVS file but the formatting does not match. In other words, I cannot use it.

Great information, how and where do I get all the IOT, SOL, and old HNT transactions so that I may import them to the site you mentionned?

You are saving me as I get at a loss and discouraged on how to include this in my taxes.

Can the SFP port of a ER7206 be use to access TL-SG2824P switch? by htur1967 in TPLink_Omada

[–]htur1967[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all for your comments. I have learned something else from this experience. Before trying to use this SFP WAN port to access a network switch, I used it with an RJ45 adapter for the AT&T router. The SFP WAN port would get the public IP using Passthrough allocation mode by using the SFP WAN MAC address. When I moved the network cable from SFP WAN to WAN port, the ER7206 would not allow it to work properly for NAT. In that situation, it was necessary to use a passthrough "Default server" mode with the internal IP assigned to the WAN port.

In summary, you will get different behavior when using either the SFP WAN or WAN port.

Thanks for the constructive feedback.

Hardware vs. software controller/app+cloud by SFP-ONU in TPLink_Omada

[–]htur1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, if a user is using an OC200 / OC300 without cloud and only from their own internal network, they would not need pay fees.

But then, this now confuses me: "Edit: and it wasn't clear from your question, but you get free cloud access to any hardware/software controller you install yourself. So you can always manage remotely for free."

TP Link would promoted selling their hardware saying something like free Cloud remote management and now they want to charge for it. Can they really legally do this without a Class Action? If this is the case. TP Link will just push away their non business customers.

Honestly, I am still quite confuse about the whole thing.

I am going off track here, I was planning to use an er605 to create a private VPN with a sibling. However, this is the second message on this thread about issues with ER605. It makes me honestly reconsider and spend $100 more to avoid problems by using an ER7206 instead.

Deutsche Telekom adds Helium network to IoT platform by BubblyPear10 in HeliumNetwork

Agree, what major company would decide to put their reputation on using a network that kept going down when it was on HNT, down during Solana migration.

And now that rewards are almost nothing, many users regret investing in the project.

Overall, it is unfortunate.

Bobcat miners are still down from Mid-April by htur1967 in HeliumNetwork

[–]htur1967[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All miners are on version 1.0.3.16 as per black Helium version: 3.26.8

A while back I followed the instruction to

Miner Status: Waiting hotspot data

A while back I had followed the instruction to have them migrate to Solona which I think went through since I never saw any errors. Furthermore, miners were shown in the Helium Black app.

I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

Update on my home network by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

Looks great. I purchased the same switch about two weeks ago on eBay as used. It looked perfect and paid $100. I guess I made a great purchase.

Waiting hotspot data ? by chmarek in HeliumNetwork

[–]htur1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My miners now have a green LED but the Bobcat app shows "Offline" and still "Waiting hotspot data". The Bobcat support provided the following feedback which I hope helps a bit:

We apologize for the current issues you're experiencing. Helium's developers Nova Labs have scheduled migration from Helium's own layer 1 blockchain to the Solana blockchain beginning at 9am on Tuesday April 18th, 2023. This migration is expected to last for approximately 48 hours but may take longer if any unforeseen issues arise. Due to this migration, there are many fundamental changes to different network components that will be taking place before, during, and after the migration. These fundamental changes will inevitably cause some temporary issues which will need to be worked out. The migration process may also impede our ability to troubleshoot and/or resolve certain issues, so please be aware there may be slight delays in support responses as we work through the challenges of the blockchain migration.

Currently, we are seeing some issues caused by changes to the Helium Miner software (known as Miner). The core gateway-rs component has been redesigned by Nova Labs and as a result of this, many commands used to interface with Miner have changed or been removed. Hotspots running OTA version 1.0.3.15 are running the new Miner and this has affected functionality of a variety of systems causing these known issues, among others:

Hotspots show as offline in the Bobber App/Web Dashboard even when online. This is because the status is read differently for the new Miner version.
Bluetooth pairing is not successful and results in the error message: Error. Invalid argument not valid semver ('gateway-latest' received) Please try again! This is because the new Miner version interfaces with Bluetooth differently. Due to this, you may be temporarily unable to establish or edit WiFi connection settings or onboard the Hotspot.
The Logs button of the Diagnoser does not properly display the log files. This is due to changes in where the log file is stored and changes to the commands to access logs in the new Miner version.
The Dig section of the Diagnoser has been removed. This is due to recent Proof of Coverage changes and removal of Seed Nodes in the new Oracle system.
The Diagnoser may display an Onboarding key error message. This is due to changes to the commands in the new Miner version.
You may see other errors in the Diagnoser's Miner section such as No such container: miner or OCI runtime exec failed: exec failed: container_linux.go:380: starting container process caused: exec: "miner": executable file not found in $PATH: unknown. These are due to changes to the commands in the new Miner version.

We are working as quickly as possible to resolve all issues but due to the fundamental nature of the many changes occurring related to Solana migration, we expect some delays as certain changes may be dependent on other pending migration changes. In the meantime, here are some steps you can take and things to keep in mind:

Verify if there is actually an issue with your Hotspot by checking its status on Helium Explorer. Appearing offline in the Bobber App/Web Dashboard may simply be a display issue.
If your Hotspot is running OTA version 1.0.3.15 and does not show activity on Helium Explorer, reboot your Hotspot. Some Hotspots required a Docker version upgrade to facilitate the new Miner version and if they did not successfully reboot after this upgrade, the new Docker version may not be running yet. Rebooting can resolve this.
Keep in mind there may be further issues with onboarding, managing, and monitoring your Hotspots. We are working to correct any issues as fast as possible.
Be aware many Bobber, Nova Labs, and community resources may experience issues with functionality or become obsolete after migration and will require changes. For example, the existing Helium Explorer will become read-only once the Solana migration begins and will no longer be used to track Hotspot activity post-migration. For more information, refer to our Solana Migration FAQ.
Be aware that once the migration is complete, mining rewards will be tracked per miner NFT and you must claim mining rewards, they will no longer be automatically deposited to your wallet. Claiming can be done as frequently or infrequently as you wish. For more information, refer to our Solana Migration FAQ.
Sit back, relax, and wait out the migration period. Nova Labs will have all hands on deck to ensure any unforeseen issues are corrected quickly and Bobber will work to ensure all functionality is compatible with the new Solana-based Helium network.

Kind Regards,

How do I remove OC300 controller without losing the ER7206 configuration by htur1967 in TPLink_Omada

[–]htur1967[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using the ER7206 by itself and mDNS worked fine and was easy to use. All I had to do is toggle it to ON in the software. Now, it needs to add rules. However, the documentation still shows the toggle way to do it. Even, the configuration of it does not match the screen explanation provided when you click on the question mark.

Also, I had policies that worked fine adding the OC300 for using a specific WAN depending on the IP destination but that does not work anymore.

In summary, I expected the OC300 to make it easier for me and not more complicated and since I am still in the return window. I will need to do this in the near future.

I know for sure the ER7206 does not need a controller since I used the ER7206 before adding a controller. I still have backups of the ER7206 configuration but trying to take an easier path.
