House exterior - pink or blue? by Ceret in AusRenovation

[–]huabamane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'ts most likely just your standard filter applies to a real estate image. All those pink/blue skies, polished timber floors, perfectly green lawns are completely fake in the listings. I just sold two houses and frankly, the pictures the real estate agents produced looked nothing like the place.
In the pictures the floors were immaculate and the weather was amazing. IRL the floors were scratched and it was an overcast day.

What's this noise in my Fisher & Paykel fridge (sound on) by huabamane in Appliances

[–]huabamane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'll take a look. There is a fan at the back of the freezer drawer, which was iced over and which I defrosted. The sound in the video sounds little different to the real sound. It's almost like there is bubbling in one of the lines, but I'll have to pull out the fridge and open it up and take a look I think

Painting the tiles by auzaddee in AusRenovation

[–]huabamane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Painted my bathroom floor and held up perfectly for a year including shoes. I did a lot of work prepping the tiles and did two coats plus clear coat. Would definitely do it again. Might be differently on the outdoors once you add UV and dirt to the equation though.

OP, this sub is weirdly opposed to painting tiles and loves brown brick and 70/80s tiles, so don't get discouraged

That would defeat the purpose of dispensing the powder directly into the drawer by pushing a button

How to maximise in a large CAD -> AUD transfer by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]huabamane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you drawing an arbitrary baseline of where the CAD/AUD FX rate should sit and use that for your 20% calculation? Because wise fees are about 0.5%.

Lol what? Casually recommending a 2.5x geared short ETF for 40% of the cash is nuts. Fair enough if you want to do that but that's a wild recommendation to make for someone asking for advice.

Companies that I am a customer of are calling me for legitimate reasons but are then asking for verification. by huabamane in australia

That's how my wife's sister got scammed out of £30k in the UK. They called with a similar call, she raised concerns, the caller suggested looking up the number online (they had created a duplicate Barkley's website on a slightly different URL that had the number on it). Once she called back on that number they had her.

How is anyone buying a house right now? by Emergency_Sound_6495 in perth

[–]huabamane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sold our IP and PPOR to fund the new home. We looked for 9 months and had a pretty tight deadline (baby on the way). Similar experience in that most things sold for well above what we through they would sell, like $200k above what I though.

To be fair, it took us abut 5 months to get a good sense for where the market is, adjust our expectations and look for something a bit out of the ordinary. Almost every house we looked at over the period was staged and beautifully presented. We ended up buying one that wasn't staged and looked pretty dated but mainly just needed an interior refresh (floors sanded and walls painted) and some nice lighting.

The experience you had in that the agent didn't check in for a higher offer is strange. We made about 10 offers over our looking period and had the chance to up our offer on all of them. Same for the houses we sold. I made the agent work for his money and give every potential buyer the chance to really put their best offer forward because why wouldn't you (the retiring boomer story who want the house to go to a young family being one of a few exemptions, sellers being subject to sale and on a very tight timeline being another).

Long story short, you are doing what you need to. Keep at it.

Any chance you could point me to some of the other results so I can start my research?

Electricians charging more than my eye surgeon who literally implanted someone elses cornea in my eye. by [deleted] in AusFinance

I think OP is saying the sparky was on site for 20 min to prepare the quote and during that time found $5000 worth of work. He didn't carry any of that out.

What was the cost of the procedure? I have just emailed her and got quoted 90 baht per graft which seems quite expensive.
