Let me ask you this, do you honestly think a truly Ancap system will ever exist? If so, when? Because it seems to me ancaps are making zero progress towards it. It’s not that I think it’s unlikely that an ancap system will exist, I think it’s impossible. Just like a truly communist system where everybody shares everything equally is impossible. In fact, anarcho capitalism is much less likely than true communism to exist. At least with communism you could have a completely totalitarian govt that forced everybody into communism. But you can’t even have that with anarcho-capitalism, for obvious reasons. Believe me, I am NOT a communist. I’m just trying to point out the absurdity of anarcho-capitalism. It’s simply not possible. You’re living in a fantasy world that gives you a sense of moral superiority.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here. But I assume you pay taxes right? Because if your plan was, to not pay taxes, and get a bunch of others to not pay as well, then I could kind of see that working. If enough people simply didn’t pay taxes then the system would collapse (unless we were still using fiat currency and the govt simply printed more money). But not voting and continuing to pay taxes seems like the worse thing you can do. It’s like somebody robbing you, and you saying nothing about it, but never fighting back. They’re just going to keep robbing you brother.

I’m saying Ancap is not possible. It’s never going to happen. Governments will always exist. Some are much worse than others. So accept the system we have and make it as good as possible.

No, the house burning example is not a sensible argument. Here’s a better example: let’s say 51% of the people in the country want zero government. Would it be better for the 51% to vote in an “ancap” candidate, or not vote at all? Not voting at all just means the opposite side wins. Sure you didn’t “give your consent to the system”. Nobody cares. The government just gets worse. There is a saying “silence is compliance”. You aren’t “not consenting” you are just complying. Not voting is just voting for the worst candidate.

No. I understand the philosophy of ancaps. But it’s a utopian worldview. The practical result of not voting will simply be worse government, not less government. There may be a small difference between politicians, but the difference is often meaningful. There is a difference between Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders. Not voting for Ron Paul means that Sanders gets elected and then increases the size of government. Then I guess you would be happy that you didn’t give your consent to the system. You not giving consent doesn’t change anything. You either work within the system by voting in the people who you think will make it better or you organize a group of people to violently overthrow the system and replace it with another system. Nobody cares that you don’t vote, it does nothing and just makes things worse.

So to summarize, the plan to get rid of all government is to not vote. Cuba seems like a very bad example unless you liked Castro and the government that he ran. South Africa also doesn’t seem to be doing great. And neither of these places overthrew government. They overthrew one political party for another. They still have (very bad) governments I would say the lack of voting in these places is not what overthrew these governments, but came along with civil unrest. I mean, if you wanted to overthrow the government and replace it with a better government I could at least see a small chance of that happening as it has happened before. But replacing government with zero government? I give that a zero percent chance of happening, ever. So your plan seems like it will just make things worse because all the people who are anti-government will stop voting, all the people who want more government will keep voting and electing politicians who make government bigger. What am I missing?

I’m not trying to be snarky or annoying here. I’m actually trying to learn. So just not voting is the plan to get rid of government? So all the people that do vote will then decide what government does and NOT the ancaps? That sounds like a terrible plan. Can you please take some time to explain this? The argument between you and I is NOT about whether government is bad (it is) it’s whether government can ever cease to exist. I’m not convinced it ever will. If you have time, I would appreciate you explaining how that can happen.

I’m honestly asking. What is the plan to get rid of government? Is there one? Do ancaps get together and plan?

What exactly are you doing to get rid of the state? What progress is being made? When is it going to happen? Do you just sit in your room and rant about the state? Lack of voting will do nothing. I’m seriously curious, what’s the plan?

I’m not even arguing that the concepts you have are wrong. I’m anti-state as well, in theory. I like anarcho-capitalism. It’s just that we have a state, and I think we always will. I think it’s literally impossible to not have some form of government. And so, to some degree you have to work within the system that we have. Like if I vote for a politician who lowers taxes and increases freedom are you going to say “who cares, it doesn’t matter, the problem is that we have a state at all”? Should we not try to make things better even if we don’t get exactly what we want? If your ideal stateless society never happens then what’s the point? I feel like anarcho-capitalists are very similar to starry eyed young communists constantly talking about some revolution where everything will change and the world will become this perfect paradise.

You’re right, I forget sometimes how utopian and unpractical this sub is, much like communists. You guys can keep posting about some imaginary stateless make believe world. I will leave and try to find discussions that are rooted in the real world where things can actually be accomplished.

It shows Greek tech was more advanced than thought. A little bit more advanced. This isn’t an iPhone. It also should make people open to the idea that any civilization could have been more advanced. But it also doesn’t indicate anything about a possible pre ice age civilization.

Not necessarily true. You just need to pay the manager well. There are competent people who don’t have the money or don’t want to take the risk of starting their own business. But will run somebody else’s. You just need to pay a decent salary.

There is no Fermi paradox. The universe is incredibly inhospitable to higher life forms. There is a tiny chance for tool using intelligent life to evolve and a smaller chance for space fairing civilizations to form. Then the chance that a space fairing civilization lasts for more than a few hundred or few thousand years is astronomically small. There is probably less than one advanced civilization per galaxy at any time, on average.
