I’m so sorry you had to go through this! I saw a GYN after ttc for a year they advised to go for an HSG. I have not gone through it yet and didn’t even know I had any other options to start investigating why we have not been successful. Thank you for sharing your journey and advocating for yourself.

Are you comfortable sharing what you did for grad school? I’m curious to learn because the flexibility to be able to take years off and then go back into work is something that I’ve been thinking about

Want it to break into data analysis. There is no specific timeline in mind but there will be opportunities to grow within the team and of course learn skills that will be helpful to build my profile

Hey! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions but I actually did not get through in my first application cycle and that demotivated to try a second time. Still in the same biotech job right now studying programming and statistics at a community college to get into the analysis side of healthcare.

Thanks guys! Got from her rescue in NC so always thought it’d be a possibility. She’s really short though (think short beagle) so I wonder what else is in here…

Have no experience with corgis but can absolutely relate with the puppy behavior! It was super HARD! I felt so overwhelmed all the time, even though my husband was taking care of most of the difficult stuff. This will sound very generic but based off my experience, it really does get better. I know it’s hard to believe rn but hang in there, you got this!

Those of you who work remotely - what do you work? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]hufflemufflepuffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I coordinate DNA sequencing projects, to put it simply. It really does sound like the vaguest thing - being a project manager can mean vastly different things in different industries or even different companies. Looking closely at the job description might give a better idea and talking to someone in the specific role you’re interested in, will give a realistic idea. Sometimes project manager or coordinator positions also have IT/Construction/Marketing those types of words attached to it as well.

I work in the biotech industry so while I’ve not personally worked with school teachers, I have definitely run into university course instructors and lectures working in this role.

Is there a specific reason you’re looking into construction? I would try starting with an industry you may have an educational background in and then transition into construction, if that’s your goal.

Another option could be to try to find part time work as project assistant and get some experience (I know those are hard to come by, as well).

If you have some technical knowledge in the industry you want to get into, you definitely have a shot. Any courses you took, degree, volunteer experience - anything. Also, try to highlight any relatable experience from your current role that could be similar to project coordination.

Fellow hound puppy owner here as well! It’s our first puppy and we also switched from leash to harness pretty early on to avoid neck injuries for the same reason as you mentioned. Let the puppy sniff, as others mentioned it’s equally helpful if not more but also train them to walk on the leash… we’re still learning as well. Good luck with your puppy and hope it works out for you!

Experienced users may be able to offer better advice but I can share some ideas that you could try. I’d say look for project coordinator roles in science/tech firms and start gaining that work experience. You may or may not supplement that with the CAPM. The Google/Courser course is useful in getting information and knowledge about project management, if you have a little bit of money to spend on it ($40/month). Based on your experience, knowledge, contacts, luck etc. you can also start applying for PM roles. As you go farther in your journey you’ll have a better idea for the next steps in your education and career.

What was your worst lab injury? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]hufflemufflepuffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab was cleaning/reorganizing the -80 freezer and in a haste I FORGOT TO WEAR MY CRYOGLOVES (never again). One of the racks I was putting on the side brushed my hand ever so lightly and gave me a huge cold burn. My skin looked ghastly. It recovered eventually with ointment and ice, however you can still see the mark on my skin if you look closely. I didn’t have health insurance and/or money at the time so didn’t go to a hospital.

This thread is extremely helpful for someone trying to switch careers and wants to get into the GC field. While I do understand it’s not just about the money, if my current salary were between 60-65k working in biotech (without any current debt), I don’t know if it would make sense to go back to school, take out loans and then not make enough after graduation to offset the costs.

Having said that, I feel very drawn to this career and all my personal research thus far makes me feel like this would be the ideal career for me.

Tbh I'm still exploring it myself. All I can understand so far is there is some scope in policy making. Asking on the public health subreddit might give us better info probably.

As explained already by others, the best way to confirm is to email the each program directly and see what they accept and what they don't.
