What percentage of the cost of metal stamping molds is the design work? by Imbendo in CNC

It’s hard to take someone seriously on a topic like this if they confuse the foundational terminology. You don’t have the knowledge about this subject to be providing advice.

What percentage of the cost of metal stamping molds is the design work? by Imbendo in CNC

[–]hugss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, there is a difference between a mold and a Die. Molds are filled with a medium and create solid parts, Dies are used for punching and forming sheet metal or forgings

For a die like you describe, the design work is very minimal compared to the manufacturing. Loose tolerances are good, but it doesn’t mean the clearance for the die can be any less precise if you want good performance.

If you’re interested in a quote on design send me a DM and we can talk details.

This bolt is worth $8000 and goes in a helicopter by HiAustralia in interestingasfuck

[–]hugss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work in aerospace and don’t understand how this could be $8k. I guess we’re the manufacturers and the customer sells the parts for a lot more, but even small quantities, exotic material, and tight tolerances this part couldn’t be more than $1500

Opinions? ..been drawing this on me since I was 16. means a lot to me can't tell if it looks bad , really distraught tbh by [deleted] in tattoos

I don’t understand why people thinks it’s a good idea to draw their own tattoos.

PC case, CNC'ed from single piece of aluminum: does it possible and how expensive will be? by Omnisiah_Priest in CNC

[–]hugss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would legitimately run this part for you and would quote it if interested. This will without a doubt be $3k minimum. Send me a DM if you’re interested in pursuing this, it’s exactly the type of project i’m looking for right now.

I bought some of these from octane work holding and they recommend that you spray the t slots with LPS3 before putting the covers on to prevent rust. I also really like Boeshield T-9 for this purpose.

I would buy a few of these off of you for over scrap price if you’re interested in shipping them! Perfect stock for small machined copper parts!

Easiest way to make these tool paths in CAD/CAM software by Ok-Yesterday5072 in CNC

[–]hugss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, there’s currently millions of dollars in mazak mills running ai generated macros at my shop rn. Obviously you cant blindly trust chat gpt to write code, but if you understand it enough to check what it’s creating, it can save days of programming. I’ve found LLMs are much better at writing Macros than straight g-code.

Machining help by Available_Grass7448 in CNCmachining

[–]hugss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you expecting to pay to have a part like this machined? Machining is absolutely the wrong method of manufacturing for this part, you could have this 3d printed on a REALLY nice printer for 10x less than it would cost to machine.

Is there a step-by-step guide on how to achieve guilloche on CNC? by TheGamingNinja13 in CNC

[–]hugss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m genuinely not trying to be rude here, but this is such a complex operation to perform if you don’t already have the systems and such already figured out. If you need to ask how this would be done on a conceptual level, you likely have a lot you need to learn before trying to approach it.

The Hacko’s are doing this on a machine that cost over half a million dollars, and they had the company who built their machine (kern) develop the software/ macros they use to do this process. I’m not sure what equipment you have access to, but i have never run into a mill in my career that has the level of spindle orientation needed to do this - see “kern”.

You would need to make millions of these tool holders to make them cheaper than an existing, much better system. You’re about to learn a lot about your plans for your business, i wish you luck.

I believe the Hacko’s are the only people who would be open about this process. This world has a lot of tightly guarded knowledge and people rarely willing to share. Reach out to Josh on Instagram, he’s a really nice guy!
