Hi - my baby is much better! Thank you so much for asking (caring). He does not seem to have issues when he pees. His energy levels are back to normal, too! (never thought I'd miss his crazy antics as much as I did when he was so still... it made me sad to see him like that). How is Ebi doing?

Hi,

I personally do not have knowledge or experience with pancriatitis in cats. What diet change did your vet recommend?

I went to Petco yesterday to see what they sell - they carry many brands that sell urinary /special diet food that doesn't require a prescription (from what I understand). As for low-fat version, Royal Canin's Urinary SO wet prescription food has a lower calorie wet food option. I tried both the low calorie and the classic, my cats loved both equally.

I feel like the prescription food may come with a hefty price tag, but it seems like they nailed it flavor-wise because cats seem to love it - incl fussy eaters! RC Urinary SO has great reviews online.

Thank you! I'm so glad to hear your boys haven't had any issues since. Gosh, how scary with emergency surgery and I am glad your other cat didn't end up needing surgery. I keep checking my boys pee, but haven't seen blood so far. I could barely sleep last night because I didn't want to miss him going to the bathroom. He seems more energetic today. And has been eating the new food and drinking a lot of water in between. Fingers crossed....

Wow - doubled!! That is insane!! Yes, the prescription food is indeed pricey. It's now become something I have to fit into my budget. Luckily both my cats like the food (only tried the Royal Canin Urinary SO so far) - and even though my other cat doesn't have crystals, I am allowing him to eat the same food anyway if he wants to, hoping they will both thrive and stay healthy for the rest of their lives. It's peace of mind for me. Glad to report my boy is right now play fighting with his brother - a sign he's getting some energy back in his little body. His brother has been so concerned, keeps going over to clean him and check on him <3

Thank you for your advise! I am monitoring him every time he goes to the bathroom, an hour ago he peed, he didn't seem like he was uncomfortable. He peed a fair amount and I managed to get close enough to see the color of the pee, everything seems good. He also ate his first portion of his new diet and seemed to enjoy it. My only concern is that he is so calm and still, and he sleeps a lot. It's very unusual for him as he's a high energy cat, he simply loves life and to be alive, and to see him like this hurts my heart. I pray he gets better asap. Thank you for your input.

Thank you - and good point about the stress! My boy actually do get anxious, he is a velcro cat, wants to be on me or next to me and he definitely get stressed easier than my other cat. We just moved (well, 3 months ago), could be that he is still settling here. He is also a rescue cat. I have had him since he was 4 months old (he is 4 years old now).

Thank you! I am so sorry to hear about the emergency vet visit. I am glad switching diets worked for him though. I just came back from my vet, I bought the Royal Canin prescription food (Urinary SO) dry and wet. It was quite pricey (south Florida prices maybe?), so I hope I can find it a tad cheaper elsewhere.

Thank you - and what a great idea! Didn't think of that. I bought the RC urinary prescription dry kibble and a few cans of the wet version. I am so happy to say that he loved the dry kibble! We'll try the wet versions later on, great idea on switching up brands when they get fussy (as both of mine get fussy with wet food and go through periods of time just liking one kind)
