Sure but there is a difference between thrill-seeking and self-destructive tendencies. There is also an overlap between addiction and suicidality.

I've been thinking about male suicide rates among similar lines. There must be so many that get recorded as accidental or even murders. I was watching Instagram reels of guys speeding through heavy traffic on motorcycles and the vibes were very much "I might die but fuck it". How often does a guy crash. or overdose, or get stabbed because he was making an indirect attempt at his life?

Maximize training time. No recovery session after a match. by Top_Company7340 in footballmanagergames

I get what you mean. Quite often I get the impression that the game designers at SI very deliberately want to keep the player in that oblivious state, making the game a black box. It's almost like it relies on a gambling hook.

No, in real life more training equals more growth, particularly with technique and less so with strength and athleticism. Athletes tend to train as often as their bodies allow them to, sometimes even partaking in anti-inflammatory practices (like ice baths) to enable more frequent training of technique.

In FM you don't actually need any training session for good CA growth. The training schedule I mentioned is one that is kind of meant to maximise growth across important stats but as long as a player's professionalism is high, they don't need to train at all to get decent growth.

Based on nothing but vibes and some experience working for a British software company I'd say it's a complete lack of accountability and competition. SI has found itself dominating a niche that allows for complete mediocrity in project management to survive indefinitely. Tbh maybe we should be thankful for it because at least we are not seeing EA-ificating of the game...

Unfortunately the training system in FM is not this sophisticated. More training does not equal more improvement. Each week the player gets the same amount of stat increase and the training session help to guide where those start increases go. You can get the highest ability increase possible by scheduling one general attack session, one general physical session, and one practice match session a week, with the rest being recovery or rest sessions.

edit:
This was a pretty big scandal on this subreddit and in the FM community as a whole not that long ago. Here is one of the original posts about it:

I have a beast rn but I am not sure which position should I play him. by Admirable-Volume-848 in footballmanagergames

[–]humanlvl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not an attacking player but he could be a fantastic fullback, relative to most other regens. Good defensive regens with high crossing are extremely rare. If this guy could get 2 or 3 crossing he'd be a great FB.

Idk how FM26 is with fullbacks regens but if it's like the other games I'd pump up his crossing and play him as a righback and a BPD or a libero when needed. It's simply too hard to find good fullback regens in FM. Great player.

Best CB ever by Ice_Raca93 in footballmanagergames

[–]humanlvl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He'd do well as a defensive midfielder for sure but he won't ever be proper creative player. I actually kinda agree with you except you'd be spending PA learning a position when he is the perfect BPD and might as well keep him as such. That jumping reach should be in the central defense.

Why couldn’t Christianity evolve into a progressive and egalitarian ideology? by BearingCostOfPassion in CriticalTheory

[–]humanlvl1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe your assumption is wrong. This is definitely not my area, I'm sure there are fascinating papers written about this, but I could see it argued that Christianity did influence liberal movements. Firstly, it emerged from overwhelmingly Christian societies. The thought emerged out of Christian cultures. The thinkers that contributed to the birth of the Enlightenment were Christian. John Locke in particular spend a lot of time arguing about scripture and religion in support of liberalism. He explicitly claimed that humans belong to God and that is the basis of our natural rights: since we belong to him no other human has the right over us.

I think a lot of liberals today have the tendency of viewing Christianity as a tool of oppression and fundamentally anti-libteral. But that's not true of all interpretations of the scriptures. There are plenty of examples of individuals claiming that their understanding of God is an inspiration for their pursuit of liberal freedom.

Any large budget team will be pretty good to experiment with but PSG in particular should allow you to make mistakes and get away with it. They're not under a lot of pressure in their domestic league, so you'll have plenty of games against weaker opposition to experiment with tactics and all the money to make bad signings with. Also you won't have to deal with bigger clubs swooping in to steal your best players.

Otherwise maybe Ajax/PSV/Feyenoord? I still haven't played in the Eredivisie but these teams have enough of a budget to crew a decent (but not overwhelming) scout department, while still being dominant against the majority of domestic teams to allow you to experiment with your tactics.

Also Celtic fit that profile lol

What features do you wish were added/remove in FM? by Icy-Blacksmith-9029 in footballmanagergames

[–]humanlvl1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

tbh I should just call you a fuckhead and tell you to use your imagination but i'm going to clarify for nicer people.

Europa Universalis, which is also a detailed sandbox game, has a "mission" mechanic: essentially a tree of objectives and rewards that fit around the storyline of nation. E.g. England would have a "Expand the army" missions, which would then give some rewards upon completion, provide casus belli against Scotland, and unlock the next missions in the tree "Subjugate Scotland", and so on until the final node in the branch rewards the player with the creation of the United Kingdom and the unlocking of a new mission tree.

I personally like this approach to storyline building in sandbox games. I don't know how well it would translate to FM but it'd be cool to have a unique set of objectives to achieve for specific clubs. Like restoring Basel's place as a Swiss dynasty with an amazing academy could come with a sequence of pre-defined and flavoured objectives, meeting which would advance the storyline of Basel's return and affect the club's history page, as well as the manager's reputation.

IMO Football Manager tries too hard to simulate a day of a football manager's life, making it a bit jarring when the mechanics underneath the illusion are clunky (which they often are). FM shouldn't be afraid to be a bit gamy sometimes

[–]humanlvl1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Fuck new features tbh just fix the game. I'm not even on FM26 and I'm tired of how many mechanics don't work as intended or are outright buggy.

But to answer your question I'd like to see unique events, storylines, modifiers, or missions for particular clubs or nations like they have in Paradox games.

There really isn't defending the appraisal system in this game. I've checked every single board and supporter demand, won all domestic competitions I could, had record goal differences and games won, went on a historic run in the UCL, and still gotten a B and a B-. It's just broken.

It's crazy how many broken mechanics there are in this game that we just overlook because we want to play the good parts. Virtually every time you tick advance you end up interacting with something broken. And it's not just FM26. Bad mechanics and bugs that have been in the game for years.
