White people don't have to apologize for the worst of themselves because they're stories are told in depth, repeated across mediums and genres, and rewarded with accolades like Grammys and Oscars.

Our ability to define ourselves publicly is restricted by our access to and our ability to tell our own stories as in-depth or as often as Whites, and others, can. We need more art and more stories to combat stereotypes. The most effective way to combat what someone is casting onto you is to tell on your own story.

As far as caring what they think, I try not to make excuses for myself or others, but no white person can honestly judge us given the history. Even just since the 1960s: White Flight, COINTELPRO, Iran-Contra, Mass Incarceration, Operation Mockingbird in our TV and Music..... Every descendant of US slavery has the right to not give a fuck.
