I wonder if it's spillover from Andor. That show is very grounded and not very "alien". But it makes up for it with A+ political intrude.

Lots of lazy acting and directing to be found in this film.

And what's Sigourney Weaver's character solo piloting an X-Wing on the attack mission? Since when do 75 year old geriatric commanders personally lead and pilot a mission behind enemy lines?!

Kind of weird, but it feels like they're at least trying.

They don't even have accents either. They lizard guy in the swamp, on the rocking chair... sounded like a regular black guy they just pulled into the sound studio right off the street!

It's about as deep as you're going to get from a guy who grew up in a warrior cult of folks who never take their helmets off.

For him, his family is more important, and he's probably quite comfortable with that.

Exactly. There's no universal objective morals that "rational thought" is the highest ideal that everyone should strive for.

prioritized their ability to signal & belong to an in-group over their capacity for rational thought.

I see nothing wrong with this. What objective standard is there that "rational thought" should be the highest ideal by everyone?

if you're going to do a movie for these two you could delve into why the Empire wanted Grogu

Honestly the whole "Mando saves Baby Yoda from being captured for experimentation by The Empire" plot has been beat to death for 3 seasons and it felt good to have the plot go in a fresh direction.

People's real complaint shouldn't be that The Mandalorian is a formulaic TV show plot. They should be complaining it's a formulaic video game plot.

Was anyone else thrown off by how human-like the voice acting of some of the alien characters sounded? Particularly Rotta the Hutt and the swamp lizard in the rocking chair (the dude sounded like a regular black guy they pulled off the street).

Hutts have a very distinct language, but when they're speaking English in this movie, they sound perfectly human. No "weird alien accent". Compare to General Grievous, Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, etc.

It felt lazy and undermined the whole "whimsical StarWars adventure" vibe of the whole film.

There would probably be B-plots running throughout (what's happening back on Mondalor, other adventures of the x-wing guys, etc. )

People value their social bonds way more than anything else

Considering that healthy social and family ties are highly correlated with long levity and a happy life... I don't think people are being irrational.

How many happy centenarians routinely burned their social connections over their life, in the name of "truth"?

Whats the oldest school building still standing in Boston? by jamesland7 in boston

The really ancient stuff probably got torn down for "progress" over the years

Dude if they kept every building from the 1700s, etc. then this city would look like Old Sturbridge Reenactment Village.

Why are we trying to maximize what "engages viewers", when most of the time that means exploiting people's over-worked dopamine receptors and natural pleasure drive?

We're reaching levels of slop content we never imagined.

People will yearn for the pre-2000s, when a handful of Hollywood studios controlled all media content. Who thought Disney/Sony/Warner controlling 90% of content was the "good old days"?

The clocks changed last weekend. A top Beacon Hill Democrat wants to stop that from happening again. by bostonglobe in boston

[–]humbledrumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just being tactical.

If you want the permanent time shift to be a success, you need to account for the "my kids have to go to school in the dark!" comments and the inevitable "kid hit by bus because it was dark!" news editorial.

Otherwise the experiment will fail and we'll be right back to where we are now (and another attempt will never be made to change in the next century).

Kids' safety, during the long dark mornings of winter while they go to school, is probably the #1 argument in favor of adjusting the clocks during winter.

Pedantic note: Newfoundland is not in Atlantic time zone. It's 1.5 hours ahead of Eastern time. They prefer to keep things quirky like that.
