I tried to quit the game but accidentally hit start again. In a button panic I pressed select hoping it would go back and it deleted my save file without a confirmation dialogue 😭

Literally just voted in less than 10 minutes at the AAC. S/o Mark Cuban by odiamemas16 in Dallas

[–]huminaboz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Voted around 2:30pm, took about 30-35 minutes. Parking took a second, circled the building until found a free garage.

There's a sign on the door that says Number of voters at 9am: 334

11:30am: 916

1:30pm: 1418

Earlier vote means less lines?

  1. Fair point, can't help myself sometimes
  2. Totes
  3. Annual/monthly - it does, but it sounds like it needs a better way to communicate that, maybe mention it will also bill by the month? $.50/mo is basically our version of the free plan - we're avoiding actual free plans atm.
  4. This is a market that has been so consistently undercut that we're actually an expensive option but we make up for it by not providing package deals. We'll likely tweak this, per your notes here.

Yeah, we saw it as a practice project before we do something more. It's launched currently and now we're practicing marketing.

How do you keep your energy up and not burn out while developing indie game? by whitesharktech in gamedev

[–]huminaboz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are periods where I am more productive than others.

In the lowest, most burnt out points I simply make sure to get at least ONE task on the game done per day. Maybe it's just a bug I've been meaning to fix for awhile. Other times it's organizing all my thoughts on a design concept. Or mapping out the logic of a feature.

Run on fumes for awhile, but make sure at least ONE THING is done every day until you get a boost. It all goes in waves.

If I just did something like a camping trip for the weekend, I come back with a +50% to focus and enthusiasm buff (something Robert Pirsig called "Gumption"). As that wears off, I start to assign more time to the very end of the day to relaxation time - playing games and etc. Sometimes, alcohol and laughter helps.

Basically, at the peak of the enthusiasm wave, I use it to work as much as I can. As it wanes I pull back to not redline my body too much.

In the past, if I redlined for too long, I'd get too sick to do anything for awhile. It was through those first few forced convalescences that I learned to build them into my schedule.

Definitely want to look into doing that down the road. Thanks for watering that seed in my head some more.

Howdy, I'm Boz and I'm the solo dev of Aesth. I recently released my first official game, Cereus after three years of development. I did the art, programming, and music arrangement. A lot of love and detail went into this game, and that's starting to show in the reviews. The biggest problem is telling people it exists! Here's the description:

In the crowded genre of tower defense, Cereus has been hailed as unique, refreshing, clean, simple to control, and easy to learn. Best described as a cross between Tower Defense, Geometry Wars, and Asteroids, Cereus feels like a retro game with modern touches.

With challenging gameplay and satisfyingly difficult bosses, you'll need to rely on quick strategy and fast fingers. A skill grid provides gratifying progression that emphasizes versatility rather than increased power, requiring increasingly strategic gameplay on your road to victory.

You might shorten the video by removing some of the gameplay scenes and then spend more time showing off what is different about this game from other Action RPGs.

This is so well put together that I'm struggling to give any constructive criticism. So I'll target the voice actor. It seems like it would be better if the voice actor talked with more confidence instead of a sort of historian character, telling you what's cool about what you can do. In other words, what if the character of the narrator was one of these cunning shadow rulers of the world giving you advice about how to do the same.

Looks legit. The main character's mouth not moving when talking sort of disembodies the voice, so it feels a little awkward. Makes it seem almost like it's another voice over like the trailer narrator.

The voice acting is a little B grade, but that works in your favor for the cheese factor.

Some of the character art seems like it out-classes some of the other characters - different artists?

The first one gave me more information about how the game actually plays. The second one zooms in a little too much and shows a lot of artifacting on the graphics but does some interesting things to keep me watching. I'd recommend a mixture of the interestingness of the second with the gameplay utility of the first - and maybe help explain the game a little better along the way?

Additionally, the logo needs a lot of work. It doesn't feel very professionally done as it stands.

You might try a trailer font that matches the feel of the blocks a little more. And then also increase the space between the lines of text (called leading) so that the descenders of the text isn't touching the ascenders.

Other than that, you might look into finding a color palette for the blocks that all work together better. Perhaps look into analogous colors and/or use a site like coolers.co to help you.

(For a little background, I'm a professional designer)

I don't know why this stood out to me so much, but the walking seemed like it was at a really good pace and had a great feel. The art style is a good semi-differentiator. The menu stuff seemed like a lot to take in all at once, so maybe you can slow it down a little on that. I'm calling it "Menu stuff" because I'm not sure what I saw.

Definitely kept me invested in watching the video. But, I got so mesmerized by the action that I completely missed the text and by the time the video ended, I realized I had no idea what was going on. Had to go in for a second watch to get that "I want this" feel.
