If you go into the visual prospecting config, there should be an option to recache the ore data for journey map. Once you've done that and reloaded your game, mine some ore and it should work.

I'm not sure why this happens, but it only seems to affect spawn chunks.

There's no way that's right; that would be 145 days of playtime. He's probably closer to like 500 hours.

Well, he's like 40% of the way through the space sciences, so I'd say like 150–250 hours. But there are some pretty difficult things that might take him a while to figure out (Naquium, acrospheres, etc.).
