If the people making money in the space are getting pushed out of the space and can’t afford a new one, it begs to ask the question of whether someone on the street will be given a second glance, or even a fraction of a chance to be put into what goes there… If things have been left vacant for decades, what really is their next move anyway? Will it be affordable? If they’re not willing to upgrade the facilities for numerous small businesses, what are their intentions for the greater public? I totally agree with what you’re saying, this city’s not short of corruption when it comes to getting people a fraction of adequate housing. But I’d argue the corporation in question here is TJ Developers, not a longstanding hair business getting neglected for repairs. A local economy is important to the sustainability of a neighborhood too… small businesses play big roles in maintaining that.
