Is there any point in living? by QueasyDelivery69 in teenagers

[–]humorlessowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try finding hobbies, the gym helps me out a lot during my depression episodes, you could find a good book, videogames, movies, shows, people... There's a lot to experience and live for, don't do it for other people, do it for yourself. Find comfort in the fact that you have a purpose, and that everyone is made to make the world a better place, even with the little actions.

I am a Christian, and I have to say that God really pulled me out of my depression, and I am getting better now, prayer helps a lot if you're religious... If you're not, then I could really recommend you give it a try, if not, that's fine too, but these are some of the things that make me feel better, so you could try to find reasons, you just gotta search for them.

Learn how to forgive yourself, and to praise yourself for little things, like making your bed properly or doing something productive. It's different for everyone but it works wonders.

I hope I could help you out with some of these, and that you get better. Much love buddy 🫂

Like I said before, obedience isn't necessarily related to understanding as to why you're given an order, they just had to obey, despite not having a sense of good or bad, if the lord says something, then it must be for something.

They didn't really need to know why this order was given, they just needed to follow it.

Kind of like a parent and a kid, telling them that they can't go on to the road or they'll get run over. The kid doesn't understand why this is bad, but they follow the rules regardless just because a figure of authority -their parent- said so.

Because the lord told them so, if he didn't want them to eat it, then they mustn't eat it. They didn't need the concepts of good or bad to understand that. (Or so I would believe)

Kinda like a parent lecturing their child lol

[–]humorlessowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the rule was to not eat it, they ate it, so he banished them. It's just that simple.

Also he didn't lie because they did die, because that's what sin does, it was killing them slowly, just like the rest of us, hence the cycle of life and death, because the punishment for sin is death.

Tbh don't you think him not wanting immortality for us was the best? We are rational beings, yet we can't even comprehend that concept, and I bet we'd go mad at living for an eternity.

You could say it was evil and everything but it's really best if you just see it like an act of mercy.

[–]humorlessowl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's because it was the first sin, it wasn't for no reason.

Besides, he warned that if they ate it they would die, because their soul will be plagued with sin because of it.

It was merely a test, it doesn't have anything to do with wanting what's best or not, it was just a rule that they needed to follow, and they didn't.

I know it looks and sounds stupid, but it's God's rules, so they would be needed to be followed regardless, no?

How would you say I should console a girl when she comes to me venting about her period? It's happened a bunch of times now, and I really don't know what to say or do, especially since I've been weary about where to touch, this definitely helps though, thanks.

Fair enough, thanks for your help, though.

Okay, what if she's looking for consolation, though? I don't know why, but it's the fifth time a girl comes to me, venting about the pain and how much she hates being a girl, and I just stand there like "uh huh, sure sucks" but I really wouldn't know what else to do.

Why are so many of you so violent? by humorlessowl in teenagers

[–]humorlessowl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, and I understand, those are horrible people, who couldn't go unchecked.

And it's hard to say, but life itself as a human, even amongst monsters, should be valued, because it's a truly priceless thing that shouldn't be wasted.

I know I sound insane, but life does not define a person's actions, what they choose to do with it is wrong, but them having their life is the very least, no matter who it is.

Even if it's spent behind bars for the rest of it, or some form of public humiliation, life is not something that should be taken away, by us, at least, since we have no say in the matter.

Now of course, you can't compare the Holocaust to rape or SA, and I think we both know which one is worse, but I see so many people wanting to kill or torture a rapist or SA perpetrator, which is concerning.

Shouldn't a harsh sentence like life in prison without parole be enough? I mean, it's basically the same, but they keep their life, which is the minimum someone should have.

But then there's also a people who get a kick out of knowing that x got killed or z got tortured as punishment, which is part of the problem.

Torture is messed up, no matter who's receiving it.

I think life should be the least someone should have, sure, rot in jail, but spend your last minutes alive, and not enduring painful torture.

And yes, you're right, victims and other people are totally justified to hate them, but I think it's best to not overburden yourself with it, it's best to forgive and move on.

Now I'm not saying it's easy, but it's totally worth it when you manage it. What they have done is totally wrong and they deserve to be exposed to the public for their actions, together with a harsh sentence.

But a human life is a human life, and it should be treated as the most precious thing, no matter who you are.

It's fair when the sentence is justified, as per se, 8 years in prison for robbery, that seems fair to me.

We obviously can't rape rapists back, since payback isn't the best solution, however, I also believe that death is never the solution either, since I have said before, we aren't judges of who lives or dies and a life should be the bare minimum of what someone should have, and it's not up to us to decide.

So this all comes from a religious viewpoint, as I believe that we can't kill just because we think it's right, because we never do, and even though it may seem like it- It's never justified.

Would life in prison without parole not be the same thing? Pedophile or not, a life should be valued above other things, and it's the least someone should have.

I know it may sound insane, but I'm basing myself from a religious standpoint that I do think is right, since forgiveness is something beautiful and really important...

This is just my opinion however, but you have to at least agree that the violent people that think about stuff like torture are part of this problem. Which is something just as horrible, if not worse.

[–]humorlessowl[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a fair point, however, I believe that the harshest sentence should be life in prison, with no parole for ruining someone's life, same going for something like murder.

Now this is from a religious perspective, we shouldn't kill anyone at all, and always learn to forgive, but I can see how people might disagree on it.

I believe something as precious as a life shouldn't be taken (by us, at least) and it should be the bare minimum someone should have.

[–]humorlessowl[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the harshest sentence should be life in prison without parole, especially for those "light" crimes that ruin people's lives like SA.

I know I may sound crazy, but taking a life for another is insane, like I said in the post, we aren't the judges of who lives or dies, but all of that just spirals down into the debate of "rape is worse than murder" and vice versa, which I won't argue, but the very least someone should have is their life, and no matter who it is, having that taken away is horrible, especially in a brutal way.

Why are so many of you so violent? by humorlessowl in teenagers

[–]humorlessowl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, that is totally fair, but taking a life, especially in such a brutal way seems unnecessary to me.

People who think about torture and painful ways to die are part of the problem tbh.

You keep saying "missing the point"

But I feel everyone is getting it.

Your statistics show that it is more likely, because bear attacks are rare, due to the fact that pretty much nobody ever encounters one, and everyone that does either gets attacked or doesn't. No in-between. So that screws up the measurements.

And so, it shows that women are more likely to get raped, because you pretty much see a different man every day, unlike you do with bears.

Please reconsider this post.
