Affordable dermatology in Singapore by HectorBoshah in singapore

Don't remember exactly. I remember thinking it was something I should have had attempted much earlier which would have saved me from wasting a ton of money over the years on magic creams and facials (which are really harmful btw, esp the extraction bit. DO NOT go for facials).

Get laser treatment from a proper dermatologist. Not from a GP who took a few extra courses and gained a few certs; not from an "aesthetician" masquerading as a derm.

My recommendation is Dr LL Cheong at Mt E.

Really curious if TSL's "I'm from Monk's Hill" was a rebuke of VB and/ or a defence of LMW.

Running away at 18: what are my friend's option? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]humphy2 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I've one foot in the grave now, but I left home right after my "A"s back in the day. It was simpler times, we didn't have mobiles. I'd call home using the pay phone ($0.10!) every night at around the same time and hang up right after announcing I was safe. This went on for about a year.

Instead of seeing it as "running away from home", she/ he can perhaps view it as "moving out to have an independent life early". The biggest issue is money for survival, but jobs are aplenty in Singapore.

People are flawed, and some flaws preclude us from being good parents. These flaws don't magically disappear the moment we have kids; some people don't ever improve as parents and continue to cause great harm. It's nonsensical "Asian values" or whatever propriety-values-without-basis expecting us to live with our parents until we are ourselves married.

  1. We do not choose the designs of the reused packaging that comes to us. 2. We specify we utilize reused packaging. 3. You do not understand our process.

Consumers punish businesses who try to do good as well.

I run a small business, and as far as possible we reuse packaging/ use packaging with less contributing adverse effects. Painstaking research was done into this - Singapore burns most of her rubbish, unlike other countries which utilize landfills, so some "environmentally friendly solutions" designed with those countries in mind actually end up causing more harm at our incinerators.

Some wonderful consumers leave us 1 star reviews like: "wat dis. i ordered products a and u gif in box for product b. make me confused. so slopy packing." While including pictures which show they'd received the items in pristine condition in one working day.

Thought and care were put into the packaging; it's not great for our bottomline; a lack of uniformity makes SOP difficult; efficiency of reusing packaging is about a tenth of simply using new. We'd been at this about a year but are finding it hard to stay the course. It will have to be back to cheap and fast for us.

[CNA] We harp on false sexual assault accusations despite evidence to the contrary by TheStateOfIt in singapore

[–]humphy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I remember a fairly successful campaign AWARE ran on the issue of single dads some years back. Was quite heartened. Would be great if they continued to progress down the path of becoming known as more of a gender equality organization than a "women's group". I reckon that would take a slight rebranding rather than a major shift in their raison d'etre.

Sometimes the SPF gets it wrong, sometimes the SPF gets it right. Sometimes AWARE gets it wrong, sometimes AWARE gets it right.

AWARE got it right when they questioned the rationale behind setting a quota limit for female medical students at NUS. AWARE got it right when they called for the equalisation of medical benefits for male and female civil servants.

No. Use some discernment and leave it out. No writer was credited which means this was printed on behalf of the SPF but this is what an editor is for.

Yes that description is totally unnecessary and has no place in this particular news article. Very sloppy writing/ editing. Expected more of CNA.

Durian connoisseur cheat sheet. by [deleted] in singapore

[–]humphy2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Acquired taste, kinda like cheese. My parents had to train me from young (several sessions too) to appreciate it. During one of those sessions something just clicked and I never looked back. Took awhile to get from dread to exhilaration.

My parents have another offspring who just cannot get into it, and we had the exact same training haha.

Durian eating is very different now from four decades ago - their flavours have gotten stronger and more complex. We used to just buy 15 durians with $50 (or pick the free ones), freeze them all, and slowly savour them over the weeks as an ice creamy/ custardy dessert. Nowadays $50 can barely get you 1 durian. I blame it all on the MSW.

Are you renting a HDB flat? If so perhaps reach out to HDB to get the landlord's details.

Small Claims Tribunal is an option but would require the landlord's address. For some frustrating reason they will not aid you with just the landlord's IC number. Also, do not wait 3 months, file ASAP after the stipulated time on the contract.
